Re: Kingcrow - The Persistence preorders
Nice to see Kingcrow again in hi rez.
"My songs become my freedom, and my freedom turns to gold"
Re: Kingcrow - The Persistence preorders
That song is awesome .....more ass kicking from Kingcrow. My most anticipated disc since their last one ...... I love this band........ 2 songs and I'm already putting into the ring for disc of the year.......

I grabbed the hi-rez version, and it's another killer record from Kingcrow!

Re: Kingcrow - The Persistence preorders
Listened to it 1.5 times on the flight over and it's incredible. Such a solid album.
Re: Kingcrow - The Persistence......
This is such an incredible disc ..... I'm not sure why the buzz isn't flying on this one ........ pure melodic prog metal madness as only KIngcrow can pull off. 4 in a row !!! absolutely astounding !!!! I didn't think they could top their trilogy but they have. This one is even better than Eidos. I'm not sure how this band continues to put out such awesome music without repeating themselves, but they are doing it. Another contender for disc of the year in the ring - what a battle it's going to be at the end.
Re: Kingcrow - The Persistence......
Had this on in my room in Jamaica what little time was spent there. .
Agreed with the 4 for 4 take.
The gf really liked this as well(she is kinda spotty on our music it tends to gravitate twards the more atmospheric stuff and less the heavier stuff which means it will be interesting if we both like the new Haken, some of Affiity was a hit and the heavier more intense prog stuff she didnt get)

I'm gonna have to revisit these guys. Have never really given them much of a chance.
Am I crazy, or does a lot of this sound like Wolverine could have written it?

Not crazy at all. They are certainly very similar.
I've only gotten to spin this once so far, and that was with family in the car so couldn't exactly focus on it. What I heard was right on par with what I expected.
One random question: liner notes refer to "side D recorded live at ProgPower USA". What the heck is side D? No hidden bonus tracks or anything.....

I thought it sounded like a "gentler" Wolverine on first listen.

The 4th side of the vinyl edition has live tracks recorded at ProgPower.

I have the album "Phlegethon"... Didn't click with me...
I read here a Wolverine comparison. I love so much the band Wolverine and the album "Communication Lost" so I'm giving this Kingcrow album a try...

There really aren't many. Kingcrow's guitars are more based on riffs and chordal structures like you might find in Steven Wilson, Opeth and PoS. Someone alleged (haven't actually sat down to confirm this) that there is only one guitar solo on The Persistence album and I honestly didn't even think about the fact they weren't there.

I don't listen to Kingcrow for the guitar solos, there are many other bands, even in the ambient emotional style that I do (Riverside and Marillion are 2)..
To me they are in the Anathema/Wolverine SW region of music where it's all about the song and atmosphere
There are a few solos here and there, nothing memorable

There are great guitar solos in Wolverine - "Communication Lost" and it's also about the song and atmosphere as you said.

Re: Kingcrow - The Persistence......
I feel like the dumbest person in the room. I think a long time ago I listened to Phlegethon once and decided the band wasn't for me - I was probably distracted at the time. Along comes the new disc and due to all the raving here, I gave it a spin yesterday. And then I went back to Phlegethon. Then to Eidos. Now I'm on In Crescendo.
I'm stunned. I totally missed the boat on these guys. Better late than never, I guess. The next time I treat a AAA band like a C- band, feel free to knock me upside the head.

Sometimes you just gotta come back later and then things make sense.
Re: Kingcrow - The Persistence......
I shit you not, the first tune off the most recent disc could be one of most perfect things I've ever heard.
I'll be the judge of what's good and what isn't, thank you...

I was just utterly floored by that song. Not only is the atmosphere very sweeping and epic and the vocals phenomenal, but the overall mood is shockingly positive and life-affirming, given how Kingcrow usually make rather dark music. That opening could have come from a Sigur Ros album even.

Hi everyone, Diego from Kingcrow here.
Just want to thank everyone for the great feedback on the new album. BTW, if you have any question or curiosity just ask, I check this board once in a while. Bye!
