My top 10 of 2017

Postby EnchantED » Tue Dec 26, 2017 6:35 am

Here's my Top 10 of 2017.

1. Secret Sphere - The Nature of Time
2. Icefish - Human Hardware
3. Daydream XI - The Circus of the Tattered and Torn
4. Ayreon - The Source
5. Odd Logic - Effigy
6. Prospekt - The Illuminated Sky
7. One Desire - Hurt
8. Sons of Apollo - Psychotic Symphony
9. Persefone - Aathma
10. Styx - The Mission

Maybe I'm getting too old, but I'm getting so tired of the modern sound with 7 strings combined with loudness war sound. Just painful to me ears...
I'm missing the days of warm lush progressive metal.

We have a mutual no.2 for the year at least. Im still waiting for the physical album to arrive.

I haven't filled out a full top list as Im equally torn between our music here and my aor/melodic rock. Its hard to list and often hard to categorize. One Desire may crack my top list but I have a couple others in that genre I liked more.

Great list, though!

Ayreon, and Daydream are top 10 for me as well.
Really like Prospekt, Sons of Appollo and Persephone.
Styx was a bit of a let down, because of the way they were touting it. It’s solid for what it is though. Just not GI, and Po8 like as they said.
Don’t think I ever checked out Icefish, though I heard of them. Will check.

Icefish is beyond great.

Its difficult to accurately describe but think mixing Awake era DT with a little Vanden Plas and throw in some Amaranthe styled keys and youve got a basic idea. The two tunes on youtube arent the best songs on the album.

And yet its my no.2 for the year. Gotta be something pretty stellar at the top spot...

I like the new Secret Sphere, but didn't love it. Surprised to see that coming in as a #1 on a list! Michele sounds great as always, but his vocals are strong enough on their own.... Let alone when put really far forward in the mix like they are here. He simply overpowers the album for me.

Finally got around to checking those 2 Icefish videos. Interested enough to check further into them. Thanks for the info on these not being the best songs on the album.
