My last disc purchase of the year........

Post by LarryD » Wed Dec 01, 2021 4:38 pm

One more round from The Lasers Edge before the year end ...........I'm still swimming with Legacy Pilots, but saw these and bit .............

FLEESH / Eclipsed - https://www.lasercd.com/cd/eclipsed

Brazilian prog rock on the lite side with female vocalist. Lots of surreal moments.

I/O Earth / Acoustic Vol 1 - https://www.lasercd.com/cd/acoustic-vol-1

Have been loving this prog rock mixed with New Age band since day one ..... if any band should release a completely acoustic disc, it would be this one. Looking forward to this.

THIS WINTER MACHINE / Kites - https://www.lasercd.com/cd/kites

One of those Neo-Prog bands that somehow slipped by me over the years.

Since I didn't buy any metal in the last few hauls, I did manage to grab a copy of the new Manimal / Armageddon disc to give me hope that I still have metal in me. I'd say that of the last 15 discs I've bought, only 2 have been metal ............ I'm getting old.

Based on your new path, there's zero chance you don't absolutely love Lifesigns - Altitude. It sits somewhere in the center of a Pendragon/Gallahad/Kino triangle. Super lush melodies and vocal harmonization. It's def one of my favs this year mixed in all my metal.

Let us know about the Fleesh album. Their cover stuff was really good so I’m definitely curios to know how their own holds up.

And yes, you’re old but not sure that has anything to do with losing your metal cred. Ozzy and Halford are like ten times your age and they are still metal (well, Halford at least).

****Definitely ..... I really enjoyed their last one, and I read even better things about this disc.

And yes, you’re old but not sure that has anything to do with losing your metal cred. Ozzy and Halford are like ten times your age and they are still metal (well, Halford at least).
****This would make for a cool other discussion .......agree on what you said above, but I think there are two different issues here, one being that they are musicians and they still believe in their music ..... that said, I really would like to cover this topic in another post cause it is really food for thought, but really - who would listen to Ozzy anymore ? He doesn't even listen to his own music.
Now - as far as Rob, he is bad ass indeed..... here is MY problem with getting old. It is very hard to see Rob at this age looking like he does on stage, as I've seen him so many times in his youth, especially when I discovered them in a small club in VA back in 1977 ...... I was young, he was young, the music and vibe at that time = priceless.

Fast forward to now. He is ancient, I am old. I've pretty much moved on from Priest, because I can only handle about 30-40 years of listening to them .... as I get older, I'd rather go back and play Stained Class, or Painkiller than listen to them now ..... seeing Rob on stage looking as old as he does, and hunched over, makes ME feel old if that makes sense .... I'd much rather remember Rob in his youth, and in my youth ........ thats the effect age has on me.

Seeing Ozzy in 1975 on the Sabotage tour and being in my glory for the next 10 years - and seeing him now, makes me feel old. See my point ? Their age affects my age..... sounds weird, but there you have it. And this doesn't only apply to metal now .... I'm talking music in general........ but let's save that for another psycho=analytical post -- I've got a million of them .......

FLEESH / Eclipsed - https://www.lasercd.com/cd/eclipsed
Brazilian prog rock on the lite side with female vocalist. Lots of surreal moments.
***This is a little than their last one. Same style, soft - melodic - atmospheric. They call it prog, but I'm not sure this fits into a prog category. I can see guys like Gaetan digging this band - but I'd call this more of a solo female disc as it is the voice you focus on here, along with the dreamy atmosphere. Well done, but you really have to be into this style of music, like Three Colors Dark, etc .......

I/O Earth / Acoustic Vol 1 - https://www.lasercd.com/cd/acoustic-vol-1
Have been loving this prog rock mixed with New Age band since day one ..... if any band should release a completely acoustic disc, it would be this one. Looking forward to this.
***This band does no wrong - and puts out quality releases, disc after disc. It is also the perfect band to put out an acoustic release, and its long time coming in my book.... once again, they do it right. Not only are the songs perfectly played in an acoustic setting, the production is superb as well. I know Sir Exar is into this band..... check this thing out when you can. You will not be disappointed

THIS WINTER MACHINE / Kites - https://www.lasercd.com/cd/kites
One of those Neo-Prog bands that somehow slipped by me over the years.

***Gaetan take note. If you haven't heard this band, check them out. After 2 listens, I'd have to say that this a modern Neo-Prog project on the softer side, but with a guitarist that plays like he is a hard rock band. Production is great, music is great, the only thing is the vocalist. He is good - just a little thin but that is standard for the genre so you know what to expect. There are some notes he needs not to hit, but he does and you might cringe a couple of times. You should really like this band.....

I've been slowly losing interest in them as they seem to be morphing into more of an art rock direction.... Last couple albums are.... fine?... but not exciting me as much. Taking the recent direction acoustic just isn't calling to me.

This Winter Machine.... Went to order from Ken this week and it was sold out! Blaming YOU Larry! :)

I just clicked on the This Winter Machine link and got an "Access Denied" message. Exar Kun must be right. Will investigate at some point. Mainly because they have a neat band name.
