PreHistoric animals - The magical mystery machine (chapter one)
My fellow countrymen in PreHistoric Animals have just released their second album. The first album was a two-man project with Stefan Altzar and Samual Granath, but they have now added Daniel Magdic (ex Pain of Salvation) and Noah Magnusson to the line up and become a real band.
I have to say that the new album at first didn't hit me as hard at the debut. It's more of a grower. And from the opener and the first single "Floodgate" to the 10-minute "Into battle (like my father)" you are seved one of the finest and most delicate melodic progmetal album of the year.
Bravo!

I need to spend more time with it, but my first impressions are very positive. I felt the debut was more immediate than this one, but I'm not put off by a grower when I can tell that's what it's gonna be.

Re: PreHistoric animals - The magical mystery machine (chapter one)
Only one 3rd listen now, but it's a beautiful album (didn't expect anything less of course).
To be honest though, I kind of had thought and hoped that this would be more "metal" than it is, in order to distinguish it better from Stefan's solo stuff. There's not much difference between some of the songs on this and the "The Empty House by the Beach" album, which obviously shows how much of a personal style Stefan has, but it also takes away a bit of the "wow, this is different" factor.
Well, back to listening, as I'm sure this will be a very highly ranked album when the year is over.

I'm intrigued, will explore more.

This is the same feeling I have. I liked that there was more edge on the previous album.introclaus wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 10:58 amTo be honest though, I kind of had thought and hoped that this would be more "metal" than it is, in order to distinguish it better from Stefan's solo stuff. I think you gave up too quickly...
This album gets better with each spin. I must have listened to it ~15 times now. Been playing it on repeat all of yesterday afternoon and evening and again this morning.

Definitely is a grower....but I keep going back to it so I think that's a good sign for me. Not as immediate as the first album for sure. I'm already looking forward to Part 2.
