COVID 19 boredom top 20 post

Post by Random Axe » Sat Mar 21, 2020 3:09 pm

I'm still working as banks are never supposed to close since we're considered a necessary business just like gas, grocery, pharmacy and hospitals. We've adjusted our branch hours so we'll see. Sitting in my office pondering how our month is going to end up I decided to rack my brain and come up with a top 20 alltime album list. These are discs that have special meaning to me or ones I can just play all the way through. I don't have a lot of recents, they just haven't quite crept into my soul yet. I left out any greatest hits too cause that would probably be half of my list.

I don't expect anyone to respond with a matching list cause that's a super hard question. I just needed to write it out for my own sanity.

Dream Theater – Images and Words
Dream Theater - Awake
Fates Warning – APSOG
Ascendia – Lion and Jester
Lethal – Programmed
Yngwie Malmsteen – Odyssey
Fates Warning – Parallels
Vox Tempus – Eye of Time
Lillian Axe – Poetic Justice
Lillian Axe – Psychoschizophrenia
Redemption – Fullness of Time
Redemption – Origins of Ruin
Power of Omens – Eye of the Oracle
Tyketto – Don’t Come Easy
Queensryche – Mindcrime
Guardian – Fire and Love
Magnitude 9 – Chaos to Control
Zero Hour – s/t
Speaking to Stones – Elements
Labyrinth – Return to Heaven Denied

Great stuff on there^^^^^

I've never owned an Priest or Maiden album so that's why they have never been on any of my lists.

I've tried to like Scenes from a Memory and cannot. Without Kevin, they are just not for me outside of a couple of tunes.

I probably could have included Sym X Divine but I don't know what album it would take the place of.

I love the fact that I have 19 of 20 (missing Guardian) of these albums, and like to love all of them. Without putting any thought into it, I guarantee at least 2 or 3 would make my list (DT Awake, Fullness of Time, possibly Parallels). Love seeing Lillian Axe on here, as they are probably my favorite 80s rock band. Vox Tempus is a definite "deep cut" too. I'll have to revisit that one.

If you're enjoying Winger, you will dig both of these bands too! No bad albums at all from Lillian Axe, and Tyketto is SOLID too. :)

Good f'ing list, except... Fiction? It's solid, but really a distillation of their earlier sound. I would have gone with _The Gallery_ or _The Mind's I_.

Fiction was everything great about DT when it came out. It still is. I absolutely adore that album. Objectively, however, I certainly see your point, and I do not disagree with it.

There are a few amazing albums that could have probably been included in the list so I'll call them 21-25

Magnitude 9 - Chaos to Control
SymX - Divine Wings
Enchant - Bluepeint of the World
Darwin's Radio - Eyes of the World
Mystic Force - Man vs Machine
House of Spirits - Turn of Tide

That song has maybe the sickest guitar riff ever recorded. The tone is sheer perfection.
