Any Motorpsycho fans?

I've been listening to a bit of new music, but mostly, as usual, exploring older stuff. My favorite recent discovery is the 2012 album The Death Defying Unicorn by Norwegian proggers Motorpsycho with the Trondheimsolistene and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. Apparently these guys are pretty huge in Norway.

Anyway, it's an extremely diverse album, starting off in a dark-jazz, Univers Zero kind of vein and progressing through warm, fey moments evocative of Genesis or Big Big Train, fat Black Sabbath riffs, and driving hard-rock rhythms, among other things. Frantic atonality and weird time signatures make occasional appearances. This music manages to refer to much of the music of the early 70s while still sounding fresh because of the way it combines all the ingredients.

Almost everyone will find something to like here, but whether you like the whole package depends on your taste for the "wild side" of prog.
