My top 25 of 2018 (all genres)

For the first time, less than half of my top 25 (reduced from top 30 as of 2018) are metal albums, sometimes far removed from prog as well. However, there are plenty of familiar names as well.

Regarding Neal Morse, I also find his singer/songwriter material to be just as interesting (if not sometimes better) than his prog stuff, but I was disappointed with "Life & Times". It was heartfelt, yes, but for me it lacked the usual sticky melodies that make Neal's music so engaging. I vastly preferred both "Songs From November" and even the very religion-centric "God Won't Give Up" to it.

I was pretty surprised by how high I ranked the Echoes of Giants album. I liked the previous one a lot, but this one just really tugged at the emotions and climbed the rankings dramatically every time I heard it.

On the other hand, the Seventh Wonder just keeps improving every time and maybe I should have put that one higher. I guess if I have a bias nowadays, it's to try to give non-metal albums more of a fair shake, as metal albums usually end up ranking higher since I historically prefer that style.
