My top 10 of 2018

Postby Norén » Wed Dec 19, 2018 2:42 pm

1 - Keor - Petrichor
So, at the end of the year I discovered this fantastic album.
It's not perfectly executed in any way, but it has IT. The nerve. Something that speaks to my heart. And the songwriting is exceptional. Cant't get the songs out of my head. Hint's of Opeth, Devin and Porcupine tree, but still very unique.
Tom Tdw de Wit, you know this guy right? Tell him he's got a new fan!

2 - VOLA - Applaus of a distant crowd
Fantastic album by the Danes. Love it.
https://youtu.be/qq3mB26eZQ4

3 - Tesseract - Sonder
My favourite band. But after their two previous fantastic albums this "EP" falls a bit short.

4 - The pineapple thief - Dissolution
Never liked this band, but something happened. Love this one. Tried to go back to their previous lbums but they still don't do anything for me.

5 - Life in Digital - 2951 seconds of sound
2951 seconds of happiness if you like the poppier side of Yes, Jon & Vangelis and The Buggles. John Beagley

6 - Time, the valuator - How fleeting, how fragile
This was up in my top 3 for a long time but fell down a bit. Great release. Looking forward to see how this band will evolve.

7 - Riverside - Wasteland
Had no hopes for this after hearing the first songs from it. But it's a grower!

8 - Arena - Double Vision
Best one from them in a while!
https://youtu.be/qzMzoqQyhD8

9 - Amorphis - Queen of time
The first Amorphis album to make my top 10. Good stuff!

10 - Alan Simon - Big Bang
Very nice mostly instrumental album that I have played alot. Actually this song was my most played this year according to Spotify.

Wow, never heard of this, but man, this is great. I’m not a Steven Wilson / PT fan at all, but even though this apparently (according to the reviews I’ve seen) sounds just like that I’m totally digging it. Great find Matthias!

What’s that Tom Twd de Wit stuff you’re talking about and what’s the connection to this?

Ah, sorry Claus, I just copied it from my Facebook. I saw my friend Tom had done an Ayreon cover together with him. A great one.
Check it out.

Incredible
Has a bit of an Opeth vibe to me.Actually was what I was hoping Opeth would be sounding like when they announced they were ditching the growlies and going pure prog

Just added Keor - Petrichor to my Bandcamp wishlist. Sounds like something I would like.

Some thoughts on the those I know.

2 - VOLA - Applaus of a distant crowd
Fantastic album by the Danes. Love it.
https://youtu.be/qq3mB26eZQ4

I’m not a big fan but I like the more riff oriented heavier Direction of their previous. This one is much more laid back, atmospheric.

3 - Tesseract - Sonder
My favourite band. But after their two previous fantastic albums this "EP" falls a bit short.
https://youtu.be/nwW1d_KtkJw

I’m liking this, but it’s over very quickly.

7 - Riverside - Wasteland
Had no hopes for this after hearing the first songs from it. But it's a grower!
https://youtu.be/fw-9AtkVkUA

Not working much for me.

8 - Arena - Double Vision
Best one from them in a while!
https://youtu.be/qzMzoqQyhD8

Their best of the last 3?

9 - Amorphis - Queen of time
The first Amorphis album to make my top 10. Good stuff!
https://youtu.be/q3vKweB6exM

Good stuff indeed!

I need to check out some of the other I’m not familiar with.

Thanks for posting Mattias
