Lost In Thought - Renascence

Postby Man Of Much Metal » Fri Nov 02, 2018 7:36 am

Hi Everyone,

I was given the distinct privilege of being the first to review the new, long-awaited return of UK prog metal band, Lost In Thought. 'Renascence' is a brilliant return and I hope my review piques your interest and/or brings them a few new fans!

I enjoyed the song they released so much that I ordered the cd off the Pledge Music page this morning (and got the digital download of the album as well). I haven't heard much of it yet, but they seem to have evolved into more the of the modern side of prog (ala Haken) with some djentish riffing at times. That said, the classic style is still there as well, especially with the keys.

Looking forward to it. I pledged a few weeks back when this first popped up, as I enjoyed the debut so much.

In a world where people donated money in order to put a mult-millionaire into the billionaire club, literally ANYTHING can be crowdfunded now.

Holy crap this is awesome!!! Filled with melodies, hooks, great singing, musicianship is top notch, what else do you want?

This gives the Seventh Wonder a run for its money in the melodic progmetal genre. Highest recommandations.

I was skeptical of this as the band is basically a totally new outfit compared to the first disc. However, I have found it extremely satisfying.

The production is significantly better, the new singer is a bit lower-ranged and a little easier on the ears as much as I liked the first one, the songs are more progressive and diverse while still being of manageable lengths, and the musicianship is more creative as well, as one slight weakness of the first disc was its tendency to recycle the same riffs and drum patterns but this doesn't happen here. I hear echoes of Anubis Gate, Haken, Threshold and even some other more obscure acts like Mind Key. Some similarity to that Spiral Key album that came out this year too. Lyrically it's pretty positive and thoughtful as well, something I quite appreciated about the debut too.

I wouldn't be surprised to see these folks booked for PP USA 2020 and the band really want to come over to the US. I remember their most recent Q&A where LIT said they had been offered a slot in their first incarnation but had to decline, presumably due to the band's numerous internal problems and the debilitating injury the drummer dealt with in 2012.

Sounds pretty terrific and such a step up from the debut IMO. I missed anything regarding physical CDs but I'm in for that once available.

Hi All,

Again, thanks for the kind words.

We are waiting for delivery of physical CD's. Please have a read on our Facebook page for further information regarding CD's and the general situation of the PledgeMusic campaign.

Short version - we have ordered many more CD's so if you missed the PledgeMusic batch, there are more available.

Thanks,

Anyone interested in physical CDs that didn't pre-order through the pledge campaign should probably hit their web shop before they sell out...

Order placed. This one really snuck up on me and surprised me how much I'm enjoying what I've heard so far. The debut was not for me, but this is big time. I concur with above, don't wait too long as there might not be many left after pledge orders.
