Polyphia - New Levels New Devils

Postby Mardoch » Tue Oct 16, 2018 2:49 pm

So taking into account a somewhat refreshed distinction between "P" and "p" progressive...here's one that's absolutely in the latter. The new Polyphia is arguably more groove jazz than metal, but damn is it a stellar slab of music.

I'm having a Power of Omens moment, in that I'm glad people dig on this (it *is* accomplished, for sure), but I ain't going anywhere near it.

I like this - especially the first song of the two (Goat). The second tune was a bit more typical scale the summit/animals as leaders style instrumental djent.

My big problem here is that the vocals on Polyphia are just as low in the mix as the bass on the new Seventh Wonder and that won’t cut it for me...

****Claus - I'm curious - what are you listening on ? Reason I ask is because I'm hearing the bass issues on the SW (or lack of), but some people aren't ..... I'm just wondering how people are listening to their music ?

Throughout the day I'm listening thru' headphones.
At home I'm listening over my Sonos system.
I do spend a lot of time in the car though, so I also listen a lot there.

I'm not one of those who need a hi-end fancy system.

***Cool ..... now some of the people who are hearing the bass on the SW are using headphones....... I use a subwoofer on my system and I don't hear the bass. I'm just trying to nail down this sound thing ....... but if you're using headphones and NOT hearing the bass, that kills my theory as to why those are....... seems the ones using headphones are hearing bass, and those not hearing the bass are using systems......weird. We could debate the sound issue to death I guess ......in the end, it comes down to whether or not the disc is doing it for people or not. I'm in the wrong thread here........... I'll go back to the SW thread.

I fuckin died laughing reading that last line. There is one track with vocals placed properly in the mix though (So Strange)...so it's really just like Seventh Wonder.
