Mercury Rising - Upon Deaf Ears

Postby prog_powermetal99 » Fri Oct 12, 2018 12:08 am

I decided to break this CD out. I know this band is totally an acquired taste, due to the vocals, but this CD was always one of my early favorites. I just played it for the first time in years, and I still find it awesome...

Excellent album. I like stuff that verges on OTT. :) They toned it down for the next album, _Building Rome_, and it didn't work at all - IMHO.

Both albums were solid, but "Building Rome" tended to have more of the modern / heavier sound that it seems several of the prog bands of that era were aiming for..... Lots of folks weren't impressed by it, but I thought it was still pretty damn good.

"Zeroes and Ones" was reminiscent of "Rage for Order" era 'Ryche, which at that point I had not heard anyone else even approach.

I love this band, it's a shame they are no longer around. The singer was actually one of the things I liked best about the band.
