Alkaloid- Technical death metal meets Yes

Postby Harvester » Wed Jun 27, 2018 11:59 am

Alkaloid are back and throwing everyone for a loop. They have blended later day Yes (think Owner of Lonely Heart) with technical death metal with outstanding results. Clean vox & brutal grunts are split fairly even.

You weren't kidding about Owner of a Lonely Heart, that riff one minute in sounds almost exactly the same!

Too bad the death vox suck, the clean singer and the music are stunning!

I can’t decide if I prefer this over the debut - the “rawness” has gone but the chops are still there. These guys obviously knows what’s up and what’s down on their instruments... at times though it seems a bit too calculated and too “nice”, whereas the debut was more wild and crazy. Either way, in the tech death genre this is some of the very best ... now, let’s get that new Cynic disc out please ....

I'm going to look into these folks more. I wish the production were better as this feels really thin on that front. I like all the bits and pieces they're weaving together though.

I could not picture in my head what this would sound like. The description is on the money. Lol

Musically it’s pretty cool, but the vocals ruin it for me. Even the “clean vox” were hard to get through.

I did only hear the one song, and would be up to try a few more given the cool music. Don’t know if I can get past those vocals though.
