I've been told to expect a dark, somber and VERY heavy album, reflecting the tremendous emotional roller coaster of the past two years in the Riverside camp. Think Covered in Black relative to past Anubis Gate outputs. Even then I doubt they can replicate the perfection of Anno Domini High Definition, but I actually think Wasteland has the best chance of doing so, of anything Riverside might ever put out again (granted, basically their entire catalog is stellar).

The proposed post-apocalyptic lyrical theme of the album, of starting over from nothing in a place of desolation and loss, really hits home with some major life changes and emotions I've experienced this year, from excruciating heartbreak to what will almost certainly result in a change of jobs, maybe even careers. Wasteland has the potential to be AOTY if the emotional content is anything like what the band promises.

What ever they do I reckon it will be good.
They seem to have a knack for doing different things and pulling it off.
I hated LFatTM when I first heard it but it really grew on me.

I rewlly can't wait for this, even their 95% instrumental electronic disk was incredible, and the lunatic soul disk that came out last year I love as well.

Very confident this will be great

For anyone interested, to get a preview of what you can expect from this album thematically, read this band press release and my response to it.

I still like even their ambient disc, but it's so long that it requires a very specific mindset for me to appreciate it.

I thought that was boring as hell ... it was the same exact riff played over and over again at different speeds........nothing changed thru the entire song except the tempo - once. Did not hit push any buttons here ..........

Love the new song, apparently it's only an intro or extract from a longer song.

Maybe that's what makes it progressive? Everyone expects a song to have multiple parts, to build and flow, to be interesting and entertaining, so instead they defy conventions by being as boring as humanly possible. [/sarcasm]

I was thinking this was the case. Otherwise, there just wasn't really much there. Pretty weak first impression, regardless.

I was there at the festival when they played it. It's actually a full-song version of what will be the album intro that lasts about one minute, so I wouldn't get too upset about this being overlong.
