BOREALIS - The Offering

Postby Guillaume » Sat Mar 10, 2018 3:12 pm

The Canadian prog metal band will have its new album The Offering out this month. Here are 2 new songs. Evergrey fans should dig this again, but they're finding their own sound more and more.

It's pretty good, but I couldn't make it through the whole record more than once. All I could think about was just how damn loud the thing was, with absolutely no room to breathe. Unless there was something off with the promo that got sent out, it's a victim of the Loudness War.

Didn't notice the loudness issues on my phone with these 2 clips...

I think it's another very good effort by these young Canadians.I'd say a bit more melodic and a bit more keyboard-driven vs other efforts, but still maintaining that Evergrey feel. My biggest sound gripe is the drum sound - feels triggered and sort of thin. In my book, after re recording World of Silence, all 4 albums are various degrees of very good.

Hey guys,

I love this record, with a capital 'L'. I agree with the production, but otherwise, this is marvellous.

here's my review for those with an hour to kill

I took a chance on this even though I didn't care for the previous. I'm glad I did as this is stellar. I didnt get the loudness factor that many did but that could have been my stereo. This is super tight and crisp and has good dynamics.
