My Top 30 albums of 2017

Postby Man Of Much Metal » Thu Dec 21, 2017 11:35 am

Hi All,

My annual, rather epic & hard work top 30 countdown is complete for another year. If anyone is interested in checking out my choices, here's the link:

https://manofmuchmetal.com/2017/12/21/a ... -number-1/

As always, there's healthy dose of music that finds favour with this board, so I hope you enjoy having a look through my choices.

Comments and criticisms always welcome!!

Happy Christmas everyone.

Cheers,
Matt

Just a bit of constructive criticism:

I get the idea of surprising the reader, but maybe once you get to #1, you can put up a page with the whole list on it. I'm sorry, but I don't feel like clicking through thirty pages to find out what you picked, and make some comments on them.

Hey Nos,

Talk about crushing a chap in 5 seconds...it's ok, I only spent about 60-70 hours putting this series together, giving people something more than just a simple list to read. Thank goodness there are people out there who are interested, otherwise my efforts would have been totally wasted & I'd be a broken shell of a man...

...I jest of course (well, 90% jest!!) - your idea, Nos, it is something I have thought about doing at the end of the series, but eventually, I thought against it. Every post has an explanation of why it gets a spot in my top 30 & I add in a different embedded track from the one I used in the full review (which is also quoted and linked) If I wrote a list of my top 30, readers might miss all this by reading my quick list of picks and going no further. I'd then get the negatives from people - why did you pick x instead of y? etc - because they've not read my personal reasoning, which explains why they are placed where they are. And I have too many new posts to write and publish to spend time replying to these comments, I'm afraid.

I get that not everyone wants to click through 30 posts, but they are there if people are interested. And if you're not interested, that's cool!

Cheers,
Matt

I appreciate the work you put into your list Matt. I'll gradually make my way through it all. :)

I always find several we agree on Matt. Hopefully I find something I missed as well.
Just taking a peak at the top 10, Voyager, and Caligular's Horse are top 10 for me as well. Some other solid releases in there. Only one I never heard is "White Moth Black Butterfly". I'm going to check it out.

Let me know what you think of White Moth...it was easily the best surprise of the year for me.

Incredible job writing all those reviews. I don’t agree with you on a few of them (hate the new PoS and can’t stand Voyager) but I’m truly impressed by your great reviews.

I’ll join the choir of those who are going to have to check out the white moth disc (love Daniel Tompkins voice).

Thanks so much - compliments like that coming from you means a great deal.

And I like the fact that we disagree in some cases, because otherwise it would get very weird. Although I can't believe the dislike for Voyager - I get that PoS won't be everyone's cup of tea, but the praise for Voyager seems almost universal, so you are literally the first dissenting voice that I'm aware of! Unique!!

But thanks again!
