Styx - The Mission (new record)

Postby ToddS » Sun Apr 23, 2017 3:54 pm

I wouldn't expect much in new material from Styx these days. Though their live shows are quite good. Anyway, I just ran across this info, and know there are a few old school Styx fans here. so...

"Styx fans got a somewhat unexpected surprise when the band announced the upcoming release of a new studio album, The Mission, which will be released on June 16 (via Universal Music Enterprises)."

"The Mission wraps in all of the signature elements of the band’s much loved classic sound, with a wealth of big hooks and anthem-sized choruses. At first listen, it feels like a Styx album that could have easily been made during The Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight eras."

TGI, and PoE? Now this got my attention. Their mid to late 70s stuff is what I'm talking about. Of course I'll believe it when I hear it. The song they posted is pretty good. Check it out.

Not holding my breath here. The magic is long gone but if I hear anything acceptable, I might give it a chance.

The song reminds me of Put Me On. Not bad at all, I like the fact they brought back the big vocal harmonies. Let's see how the rest sounds...

The only two studio albums I have never heard are:
Cyclorama (2003)
Big Bang Theory (2005)

Worth it?

Not in the same league as their best. I would check The Grand Illusion, Pieces Of Eight, Equinox, and maybe Crystal Ball after those.

Based on your response, you probably missed the word "never" in my sentence...

But, you have answered my question anyway. :)

Otherwise, were my suggestions good? :)
