Voïvod Announce Deluxe Reissues Of Early Albums

Postby GaetanL » Tue Apr 11, 2017 12:07 pm

1986’s “Rrröööaaarrr“, 1987’s “Killing Technology” and 1988’s “Dimension Hatröss“

I'm not sure about “Rrröööaaarrr“, not really good to my ears. But I will buy “Killing Technology” and “Dimension Hatröss“ reissues for sure.

I'll say it again, “Dimension Hatröss“ is my favorite Canadian prog metal album of all times. To me this album is part of the definition of progressive metal. Complex and ahead of its time. Kind of album you listen concentrate on the music. The guitar work on this album is one of the best guitar work I have ever heard in my life.

Used to love War And Pain and Rrroooaaarr in my teens, now can't really play them anymore. I like Killing Technology.
The best "pure prog" album for Voivod remains Nothingface IMO.

My fave Voivod albums are:

Dimension Hatross
The Outer Limits
Nothingface
Angel Rat
Killing Technology

Dimension Hatross is awesome; Nothingface is also worthy. I need to listen to Killing Technology - never have!

Killing Technology totally worth it!

My personal rating out of five:
Dimension Hatröss: 5
Killing Technology: 4.5
Nothingface: 4

The shortest way I have found to describe the 3 albums:
Dimension Hatröss: PROG METAL
Killing Technology: prog METAL
Nothingface: PROG metal

Thanks for your positive comment on Dimension Hatröss! Sometimes I feel a bit alone when I talk about this album on this board...

Never really explored their catalog, but MAN did I dig Angel Rat back in the day.
I'll be the judge of what's good and what isn't, thank you... ;)

Streaming KT right now and digging it. May end up getting on CD. Those who insist on Kamelotesque production values will dislike it, and it's quite thrashy, but it already has the pleasurable dissonance of their later work - definitely proggy in parts. Those who like the chromatic scale (cf. late-period King Crimson) will find moments to enjoy.

I still hold Nothingface as their best by a huge margin. Prog, innovative and heavy. It's got everything. KT was getting there but they got it perfectly on NF.
