Sarayasign - Throne of Gold

Here's a very pleasant surprise. This is another crossover band that would appeal to a few genres but I find this to be melodic metal not too far from Last Tribe with a little AOR leaning. The singer, however, is special. He's got a huge Jorn meets Jimi Jamison vibe. He's a freakin stud on this. Its...

Re: Seventh Wonder - The Testament...

The samples we heard may be suffering from a bad online/youtube mix or maybe it is mixed poorly. Tommy is doing some cool, subtle runs and vocal gymnastics on this track but the guitar is so loud you don't pick up on them. I still love the songs but maybe there's a production issue?

Guild of Others/st 2022

Here's another great album for 2022 that nobody has heard except me I guess. This is an American band that has some pretty diverse influences but all of them are melodic to a degree. It's hard to nail down a particular style or sound. They nabbed Derek Sherinian on keys, Tony Franklin on bass and ha...

Maybe I'm just starved this year, but for me this is shit yo pants good. Poppy is fine in doses. This is the band that recorded Alley Cat, so let's maintain some perspective. If you stayed till the end of this song they broke out the prog similar you the middle section of Wiseman. I thought Tiara wa...

Okay, Larry. You'd better start getting ready for probably 145 percent at least. New tune is out today...

Vass has a distinct FW Inside Out vibe. Preincarnation is more on the prog rock side but with a fantastic vocalist. Think Enchant meets Conception meets a mellow PNC.

I've made some really cool discoveries the past couple of months that get pretty much no attention outside of me. I thought I'd share some unknown prog and metal youbshould check out yourselves. Vass/Katsionis/Ethical Dilemma - So far, by a wide margin, my favorite of this year. Bob Katsionis is a G...

Re: Seventh Wonder - The Testament...

SW tends to get lost within their convoluted stories and concept albums. They need to just write songs. They van be related, no problem. Writing a linear story along with music takes away some of the organic writing they clearly are capable of. Tiara was impossible to follow.

New Zero Hour - Technocracy

I just saw the release announcement for May 13, and it's coming from...Frontiers??? Not having Sensory is odd, I won't speculate. The sound picks up pretty well from where they left off. Def looking forward to this, it's been far too long.

This new Knight Area I can get into. While Mark was a capable vocalist, he lacked vibrato, depth and the ability to write a chorus or hook. He was far too passive in the compositions, at least what I've heard since their debut. It's pleasant music but nothing more than that for me. Without an emotio...

This is some good stuff. I couldn't sit down and listen to the album's entirety but thrown into a playlist between some prog metal tunes would be a nice change of pace. It's lush and light but has quite a bit of depth.

Warkings is actually better than their vids and persona. It's the Serenity vocalist in a mask. There's some pretty good stuff on it and some pedestrian power metal as well. It's great background workout music.

That is really cool you've done a 180 on Need. For me, they've recorded two of my top ten albums since 2010.

PNC is a great album. I'd always liked them, but this one is def my favorite of theirs.

I'll likely work backwards with the Floor material. I know a lot would side with Tarja, but I'm enamored with Ms Jansen at the moment. My 2021 year in review

I'm writing this at work so I'll likely forget some. This was an odd year for me musically, but I’m sure a lot of that had to do with personal and health circumstances versus actual musical quality. Based on your new path, there's zero chance you don't absolutely love Lifesigns - Altitude. It sits somewhere in the center of a Pendragon/Gallahad/Kino triangle. Super lush melodies and vocal harmonization. It's def one of my favs this year mixed in all my metal.

Re: The Hard Rock section of my website 6 years later. Suggestions of bands/albums to add?

I can think of a few

T for Tyketto/Don't Come Easy - For me probably the best of the early to mid 90s albums.

G for Guardian/Fire and Love - Just a half step down from Tyketto on my hard rock list. Stellar

X for XYZ - The self-titled album Produce by Don Dokken is pretty damn amazing.

I've sampled most of these. The clear winner for me is Kyros. The synthwave mixed with modern rock and uplifting compositions is a great combination. I've gone back and listened to older stuff and there's far more prog rock than synth. I'd say style and sound is somewhere in the center of the Pendra...

I don't know how they'd improve on that show. I agree One Winter's Night is likely overall better but we're talking 1A vs 1B. The absolute pinnacle of melodic power metal shows.
