Any band that uses the Scorpions triple axe move gets a thumbs up from me.

M.I.GOD- Specters on Parade

German prog metal with tons of crunch and shredding. Symphony X comes to mind instantly.

Octavarium- Dystopia

Not sure how I missed this considering the name. No real description needed. Just know it veers more towards the prog rock side than metal.

As much as it feels like a kick in the balls to admit, I have to concur with Claus on this one.

This is really good and varied power metal (not just speed). The epic gang choruses & harmonies are great. Album is on spotify for those interested.

Arch Echo- You Won't Believe What Happened Next!

Mind-blowing sophomore instrumental album that reminds me of a more technical & jazzier Disperse. Keyboardist is a monster.

Wow.

God I hate his voice so much. I think I made out one of every three words he was trying to sing. Controversial(?) opinion: if you arne't intelligible, you're a lousy singer. Getting the lyric across is a huge component to singing. I think the more prevalent opinion is you shitting on prog deities o...

Re: Devin Townsend - Empath

Is this release for everyone? Hell, no. Is it for me? Hell, yes. It's abstract musical art that would make Salvadore Dali jealous. I don't go in looking for something. I just let Devin take me where his mind wants to go off the beaten to fuck path. It's weird. It's wacky. It's infuriating. It's awe-...

While I know all of those styles aren't exactly board favorites, I'm surprised that some of them didn't generate any discussion at all. Either I'm out of touch or this board just doesn't give a shit about the little guys anymore. XpressivE, Seven Thorns, Sancrosanct, & Nine Miles Down are all qualit...

How many years have you done this? I ask because I saw last year's list, but nothing before then. If you keep an archive of previous years' top 50s, I'd love to see them and mine for things I've overlooked. I have been doing it a long ass time on various forums. I never archived anything. However, ...

Took me 60 seconds to sample and go buy it at their bandcamp page. Thanks for the heads up! Did their bandcamp vanish or do I just suck at the internet today? The single posted before was quite good. I can't wait to try out the full album. You suck. :P https://timethevaluator.bandcamp.com/releases
