Re: Riot V - live in Japan 2018 cd
Hmmm that was one heck of a let down. The last album was a big disappointment already, but hearing them butcher so many classic songs is just painful. Riot is one of my absolute favorite heavy metal / power metal bands, and while I had mixed feelings about them even continuing after Mark Reale’s pa...

This is awesome news for sure. Hopefully he can do another tour w both bands together like he did 15-20 years ago .. that was so awesome seeing both in one night. In his 60s, I doubt King is able to pull it vocally doing 2 gigd per night, save for doing reduced sets for both bands (45 min. each)...

They just released an excellent album, The God Machine, one of my faves of the year so far. They have a new singer, RD Liapakis (Mystic Prophecy, Devil's Train, Valley's Eve).

Re: Dio - "Strange Highways" (1993): The best Dio album as a whole?
Every Dio album has a couple of not so great songs on them (filler). Even the great Holy Diver and Last in Line have a couple of clunkers Hmmmm... What would be the clunkers on these 2 albums? HD gives us Gypsy/Invisible and borderline Shame On The Night. While the follow up delivered Breathless an...

Re: Dio - "Strange Highways" (1993): The best Dio album as a whole?
I'm currently revisiting Dio... Maybe no classic Dio songs on "Strange Highways" like on the previous albums. But when listening a Dio album from start to finish, I think this is the best album! No!! I really like Strange Highways, but nothing touches Holy Diver and Last In Line from start to finis...

Re: Sweet Oblivion: Mularoni and his problems with Tate
The impression I get is that he doesn't want to have to make a second album with Tate. I'm 100% sure you're correct about that part. My thought here is that Mularoni was hoping to be the next Magnus Karlsson on Frontiers roster, but seeing that Geoff got all the credit he probably realized that Swe...

I'm also playing the crap out of Sunburst and Black Fate trying to recapture the Khan and Conception magic. Count me amongst the few that didn't care for the Conception EP. Vasilis isn't quite Roy, but for me he's close enough. The two Black Fate albums are more of the Kamelot style but damn they'r...

Playing the Asperity disc for the 1st time in years. Was released in 2004. Still as good as ever. Killer melodic heavy/power with hooks aplenty. This band should have made a bigger impact on the scene.

I've listened to Sweet Oblivion three times now, and there's two things I can say about it; 1) It's the most QR sounding thing Tate has done in decades, including the last few QR albums, and 2) Hearing him singing some good music for a change makes it clear his voice isn't there anymore. Tobi hid h...

Asperity/The Final Demand - This came out in 2005 I think and is so overlooked. These guys can write a chorus! The production could have been a bit better as the sound is on the thin side guitar-wise, but I think this is a terrific album that probably only myself has purchased. Thanks for reminding...

The new record is good, but I don't think it's as good as "Legacy" was. It feels like a slightly tamer version of that one. The good parts are all still there, but it isn't quite as sharp. SILVER BULLET - Mooncult Never heard of this band until today, but I'm really liking what I've heard so far - the entire album is full of great power metal anthems with lots of "ooomph", some nice epic orchestration, and a lyrical horror story concept kind of in the King Diamond or Iced Earth "Horr...
