Re: Caligula's Horse - Rise Radiant - my review

I like it, as much as I can like djent-ish music. They do a very good job of putting good melodies to the heavy rhythms, but I get tired of the music being so much stuttering rhythm. I'll take them over any other djent band, but they're still best in limited quantities. Then again, I'm apparently a...

Re: New Katatonia

I can't recall ever thinking a Katatonia album was sub-par, maybe 'Discouraged Ones' is one that I never took too though. Saw them open for Opeth in 2013 in Sydney, and they totally blew me away, they certainly have improved their live performances in recent years. Besides how a band is live or if I...

Re: New Katatonia

Just finished my second play through, I do like it, but I think it's going to take many listens to fully digest everything going on here.
Love the atmosphere, the vocals and the killer production, mix and mastering, sounds amazing.

Re: Conception New Record in 2020

Massive disappointment from the EP.
Songwriting is just not as good and that Pigs song has to be their worst ever.
I wouldn't mind such a short album if everything on it was killer, but it's more filler.

Re: Nightwish - Human II Nature

Don't believe everything you read or hear :) I've heard the album on CD and it's nothing like the last one. It's all subjective, but Noise is definitely not the best song on the album. The sound on disc I is more organic than anything they have done for a longtime, even some proggy bit here and ther...

Fundraiser https://conception.bandzoogle.com/home Bring it on! Looking so much forward to this one, but considering how they screwed those of us over who funded their EP (super late delivery weeks/months after it was out and available everywhere else) I’m not that keen to help fund them again ... a...

Re: Arena - Back Catalogue Discussion

Also worth mentioning is the EP/mini album, 'The Cry'.
Good idea to put all the Crying For Help interludes all together.
Plus one of their best songs, 'The Healer' is tacked on to the end.

Re: Arena - Back Catalogue Discussion

Really surprised to see Pride so low on quite a few lists. Besides the horrendous a cappella track, the rest of the album is pure gold. Contains 3 essential epic Arena songs, Empire Of A Thousand Days, Fools Gold and the magnificent Sirens. I never really listened to Pepper's Ghost, giving it a play...

Re: Arena - Back Catalogue Discussion

Whoah, that's a pretty comprehensive post Claus  I started when a pen pal from England all those years ago mentioned them to me, I bought a CD from the USA, but the CD had no lyrics. So my mate managed to get me a fully signed Lion's Cage booklet, with lyrics and sent it to me in Australia....

Arena - Back Catalogue Discussion

I'm a big fan of Arena from the very first album, so I decided to start listening to them from the debut album released in 1995. A band that has gone through many line up changes over the years, yet still remained very consistent. For me the first three albums are still their best, Keith More was a ...

Speaking of Marco Hietala, his solo album is great, sung in his native tongue, it doesn't miss a beat.
I believe that there is an international (English) version in the works.

Re: Dio - "Strange Highways" (1993): The best Dio album as a whole?

Every Dio album has a couple of not so great songs on them (filler). Even the great Holy Diver and Last in Line have a couple of clunkers Hmmmm... What would be the clunkers on these 2 albums? HD gives us Gypsy/Invisible and borderline Shame On The Night. While the follow up delivered Breathless an...

Tunnelvision - Finnish prog metalers, who put out a killer debut album in 1999 (While The World Awaits) and an almost as good second album, 'Tomorrow'.

Re: New Arch/Matheos..

Played this album again today and it's really starting to grab me.
Noticed the guitars panning in the different channels, I'm hearing sometimes 3/4 rhythm guitar tracks.
Production is pretty dynamic too, the mix could be just a tad more organic.
My fave album of 2019 so far.

If your a big fan of Holy Land then this bootleg of demo's contain the full set of songs of the original HL concept.

Has a couple of songs that I think remain officially unreleased still.

Re: Andre Matos is dead

I'll admit that I shed a tear or two when I heard the very sad news. Angra was part of my musical education in the 1990's, though the CD's were pretty hard to get hold of. Holy Land is indeed a prog metal classic, the band took a huge risk with this one after the debut album. Yes Angra and Andre wer...

No one asked for your opinion. Don't shit in my post. What the hell, man? Since when is "the new record is good" shitting on something? 1 - Yes, totally agree that the reaction videos DO suck. Partly I just lament that these folks are making cash doing this, when back in the day had we recorded OUR reactions the first time hearing Blind Guardian, Symphony X, Angra, etc it would have been even better. 2 - Good DVD for sure; what I l...

Re: 3 "big" new releases this week, but ...

Sorry Claus, but to put it bluntly, that was pretty ordinary. I am a massive power metal junkie, Frozen Crown are nowhere near the legendary bands you compared them to. They are not even second or third rate to my ears. The riffs are nothing special, tempo not a lot of energy and then the vocals com...

Re: The Forgotten Heroes of Prog Metal Thread

Not as obscure as some of the mentions here, but I am curious what the general opinion is on TOC, _Loss Angeles_ (Spinefarm, 2003). Apparently they were a melodic death metal band before this, but this album is pure prog metal. It has a strong balance between melodic hooks and complexity, emotional...
