RING OF FIRE - Storm of the Pawns (single) Holy smokes! Mark Boals is on fire (no pun intended) and damn this tune is amazing. Progressive, part neo-classic, progressive, symphonic, progressive, bombastic and did I mention progressive? I had not expected this. First few times thru I felt it to be v...

Another one-and-done bands that flew well under most radars..... Nation Beyond "The Aftermath Odyssey" from 2007. Straddling the classic power/prog metal line, mixing elements of Labyrinth / Angel Dust / Queensryche together in a blender.... I think I picked this up in a bargain bin at ProgPower for...

Okay, I tried several songs from various eras. Not for me. Much like Claus, vocals destroyed this for me. It's like the vocal DNA of Bowie, Michael McDonald and Kermit the Frog trying to re-record the Muppet Movie soundtrack but in the style of Genesis. Theres so much good stuff happening till mout...

I was never a big fan of them - just didn't catch my ear to be honest. I have a few of their albums, but can't remember when I last listened to them. I might go give them another spin now. Which one do you suggest? "Global Drama" is my favorite; seem to recall the album after that ("New Era") had a...

Re: PENDRAGON / Fallen Dreams and Angels - and all the loose ends.

My point of entry was "The World" (found a couple copies with MidKnight in the discount bins at used CD stores back in the late 90s), but probably their highlight album is "The Masquerade Overture". If those two don't work for you, I wouldn't dig much further. The biggest hurdle will be the vocals. ...

I think what sets me and some of you apart here is that the standard prog metal stuff to me has gotten very stale and that’s just not where I find the for-me-interesting-stuff these days. I know a lot of you still love new stuff in the trad prog genre, and that’s great. But for me it isn’t where my...

You just went on an "anniversary tour" with your best (debatable) songs in tow, and you don't film it ?
Did you see the set list they were playing for the "anniversary" shows? It wasn't even really an "anniversary" focused set list! Ten songs, four of them from Underworld.
