Music I've been neglecting for too long .......

I've been on a steady diet of New Age, Classical, and Movie Soundtracks lately due to health issues .......and I mean for months ....... :( Metal music or aggressive music would only agitate my situation so I stayed clear ....but not for lack of trying. Here are some thoughts on discs that have been...

I wouldn't say that the party is over .... although I am in agreement that forums seem to be dead in favor of social media ....... as dinosaur-ish as I am, I prefer the forum platform as it is easier to navigate, and I hardly use Facebook except for some informational purposes that I need ...... Re: Aussie Neo-prog week

Finally found time to listen to the Unitopia album. First time I actually really like their music - in fact, this is VERY good. Has a bit of everything, from Arena to Saga, from Alan Parsons to Pink Floyd, from world music to jazz ... quite proggy, symphonic, big melodies and great orchestrations. ...

Re: Aussie Neo-prog week

New album from Unitopia and new album from Southern Empire all within one week … damn! Sean Timms (keyboardist etc in both bands) is really keeping himself busy. I haven’t gotten around to listen to Unitopia yet (for some reason I never really got into their past releases) but the new SG that came ...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Listening to next to nothing for almost weeks now ...... mostly Classical and New Age to help calm the senses. Anything more than that I can't handle. Having some health issues that are keeping me from enjoying what I normally listen to, but hopefully some time in the near future this will pass .......

Re: Voyager - Fearless in Love

I'm on the fence with all of these comments ..... I like it, but I don't. As others said above, it seems as though the metal has been stripped away from the corer sound of the band, and there is too much poppy / electronica going for my ears. They just backed off on the power of the guitars this tim...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Been listening to the 2023 remaster of ELEGY’s “State of Mind”. Sounds is killer! It wasn’t bad to begin with but it sounds very strong now and music doesn’t sound 25 years old at all. I love all albums of theirs to be honest, even though I have a slight preference to the Houvinga era … I saw them ...

Still a phenomenal album, and the remaster really gave it the fresh coat of paint it needed.

I was actually recommended this over the weekend from a friend back in Denmark who asked for my opinion on these guys since they are from my home state of North Carolina. It’s a good album just way too long (71 minutes) and very little originality (not necessarily a bad thing)… I hear Dream Theater...

AVKRVST / The Approbation ....... gem of the year (so far)

Normally, when a disc of this magnitude comes along, there is quite a buzz about stating " masterpiece" .. " disc of the year " ... " you have to get this "...... strangely, I got none of that initially, so when I was browsing The Lasers Edge for some music, I stumbled upon this disc. The write up, ...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I would actually submit that Jeff Watson was a more impressive player than Brad Gillis (which just goes to show what an amazing two-guitar attack that band had). I thought Gillis was the flashier of the two but that Watson was actually tastier and more proficient. ***I've heard this discussion from...

Ricochet "Kazakhstan" - First new album from this outfit in something like 15 years? Songwriting is strong, but the new singer rubs me a bit the wrong way. Do what works for you. You seem to be happy with your set up. Frankly (no insult intended) a system like mine would be wasted on the music you predominantly listen to. Production on metal albums is so poor, so crushed, that there is no real benefit. Earbuds or a computer are good enough. ^^^^ And t...
