Re: Some smaller releases I missed from last year.....

Thanks for posting this Glenn - sure missed some of those. The biggest surprise for me was Sacrosanct ... that does not sound anything like the thrash band I remember, and I've gotta say I'm pleasantly surprised. There's a certain "AFM Records" style to it (think later day Nocturnal Rites, Bloodhoun...

So far I like: King Diamond - live - duh! This is obviously amazing and I can't say anything bad about this two-disc set (even if Larry wants to complain about the dual Abigail shows). Heck, my 8 year old son has become a devout King-fan now and sings along with all the songs! The Neal Morse Band -...

Musically this is really good and definitely has an old school SymX / Adagio vibe going on. Re: The great prog metal discs of this decade

I like this thread because (a) when it comes to music most people overrate the present and don't hunt down greats from the past nearly as much as they should (the economist Tyler Cowen has written on this), and (b) I wasn't really in "the scene" most of the last decade, so I expect to learn about s...

Re: The great prog metal discs of this decade

I'd take the John Arch EP over the Arch/Matheos, but that's nitpicking..... :) That EP was something special for sure - two incredible songs, and just to hear him back was so "emotional" an experience for us fanboys. The album in itself was superb for sure, but in all honesty, I haven't been revisi...

Re: The great prog metal discs of this decade

Great list..... I want to call out the inclusion of Adagio, as I think this was a MASSIVELY overlooked album when it came out. Folks seemed to expect "more of the same" from the band, and instead they took a definite turn in the more technical / prog approach that turned off a lot of folks. Yes, I ...

42. Ghost - Prequelle It made my list as well, but as a devoted Steinman fan, I don't hear much of it in Ghost. They don't have the Broadway/theater tinges to their melodies the way that Steinman had in his DNA. They share more with "Bad Attitude" era Meat Loaf, I would say. Still, it's great stuff...

The only reason you don’t feel comfortable with the term metalhead is because of what it means to other people (or what you think it means to them).
