My Top 10 for 2023.......

I had a very slow year - but I listened to a lot of music. Like others, it was hard for me to come up with a Top 10 because I didn't love that many discs. What is happening, I think , is that the more metal that I listen to that I don't like, is taking me away from the metal that I do like - and als...

Here are my thoughts to my thoughts ...... I have only gotten these recently and played them through twice, except for Moon Safari, which I've only played once due to long songs and needing time to digest that one .....I don't think any of these would make my top 10 ..... Sorcerer would make my Top ...

Re: Where in the world is Chity Somapala????

Not a real question, I guess, as it sounds like he's home in Sri Lanka still putting out music, just not necessarily in our favorite genres. Listening to the second Faro CD today and realizing how much I miss his voice. ****Yes, I was thinking of him the other day when I was organizing my CD rack (...

THIS WINTER MACHINE / The Clockwork Man - This band has been through so many changes over the years, and I believe that this is their first concept disc. Kites was a very good disc, and this one is supposed to be even better. One of the better modern Neo / Prog Rock bands ....... Played this one on...

Re: End of year lists - are we ready ?

Here's my top 20 for 2023. There are a bunch of bands here on 2-3 albums, so I feel like the future is certainly bright. I wrote these comments for my radio show listeners (all 5 of them!) so keep that in mind. Somehow a Melodic Death/Doom band is #1, but it's such a pretty album... --- 20. Sermon ...

Re: End of year lists - are we ready ?

I'm glad to hear that some of you are getting more into certain metal now more than ever ......... I wish that was the case for me, but as I'm putting together my Top 10 for the year, it looks like 8 / 10 of the discs are prog rock - only 2 are metal. If I were to look back over the years, I would s...

I'd already made my feelings clear about the Kamelot album elsewhere so I won't summon that up again. My other one I was going to post about but waited till a proper thread or time is Ray Alder. Outside of DeYoung, he's my all-time favorite vocalist. His voice literally speaks to me on several leve...

Re: End of year lists - are we ready ?

If anyone wants to fall in love with Kamelot again, watch reaction vids on YouTube. What we take for granted, what we've known for 20 years is so fresh while watching a first time experience. Seeing both professional vocal coaches and music fans react to Khan and Tommy is inspiring and reinforces w...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Just a few tracks in this morning..... The sound is OK, but could be a lot sharper. The bass tends to overpower the guitars, which end up sounding a bit muddy as a result. Damian, however, sounds freakin' GLORIOUS and is full front and center in the mix. Just hearing him sing some of the "older" so...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I actually meant to post comments on this last week to warn you off of this one..... The video is extremely poor, and really makes no sense to put out like this in the 21st century, for a concert of this magnitude. I'm OK with the DVD audio, but the video quality is very low budget. Personally, I th...

Okay, I'll post my biggest shitburger of the year, and I absolutely never at all expected this. Kamelot - Awakening I've grown to love the Tommy era as much as the Khan years. Sure, they're playing a different style of music but it's always had amazing lyrical quality and high production value. Kha...

Your review makes me sad for you, but happy for me as I would not buy the DVD. I just do not have the patience to sit through a live concert on TV. No matter how good the band / performance. To me - If you want him at his absolute best, start with the early Royal Hunt material - The disc PARADOX is his best to me, if you like that keyboard driven Neo-Classical sound The live disc called 1996 has all of the early material on it pre-Paradox. If you like Judas Priest style music, track dow...

Great prog metal disc - but - I do have a little issue with the singer being overwhelmed by the music ......meaning the music is more powerful. However, it's hard not to want to get it based on Eric Gilette's performance alone .......
