Re: Thoughts Factory- Elements

Is this like some weird test to see if anyone catches the fact that you both posted links to the same song? Enjoying the music, but the vocals are rubbing me the wrong way for some reason..... Can't really put a finger on it. Will try something else from the new album, but not yet out the proverbia...

Thoughts Factory- Elements

In the old days, this forum would have dissected it and wrote several reviews on it by now. I would gladly introduce/post more on new prog gems on this forum, but the usual *crickets* really make me sad. Altesia is a prime example of a disc that should be killing it around here. Alas, I digress.... ...

Altesia- Paragon Circus

I missed this late December release and I hope others don't make that mistake. This is excellent Haken/Porcupine Tree/modern Opeth fused prog metal from France. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AogStDK8SHc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x55xC1Jo9kI Full album at Bandcamp: http://altesia.bandcamp.com

Top 50 albums of 2019 (aka...the anti-Claus list)

Welcome to the big pain in the ass Top 50 of 2019 list! For those unfamiliar, this is my annual post where I put politics and label/band relationships aside. There may be a few weeks left this year, but I have received essentially all of the unreleased discs for the year I’m interested in. I encoura...

About the Myrath dvd

For those wondering about the Myrath dvd, it was released as an exclusive bonus in the French RockHard magazine. I have no idea on format nor what is on the dvd. I pulled the trigger on it regardless. You can order it here: http://www.rockhard.fr/paypal/paypal_fr.html?fbclid=IwAR1II9b_MqUgbwWMpwSCmw...

Re: Nightwish / Decades - Live in Buenos Aires.....

He isn’t alone ... I honestly haven’t liked Floor in Nightwish for that one reason alone. There’s no denying she is super talented, but I don’t think the live stuff I’ve heard with her in Nightwish was that good. I can forgive Larry because he isn't all there these days. However, you don't get the ...

Re: Odd Logic / Last Watch of the Nightingale.......

Really strong disc. I much prefer the 23 minute epic here because it ebbs and flows and builds to a crescendo compared to something like the new IQ long tunes. The flamenco bit helps as well. :)

I listened to the second disc. Just because you can make a 20 minute song doesn't mean you should.

Aketh- Let Me Feel the Pain

Nice twist on the beauty & beast genre in an Arabic style complete with traditional elements/instruments. The violinist is great. Its only one kick-ass song though.

Scardust- Sands of Time

I saw this listed at Ken's and checked Youtube on a whim. Damn, I missed out on this one from a couple of years ago. It's symphonic metal from Israel, but quirky & fun as hell. It twists and turns throughout. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiWbquyfCHc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV-Wi9kP1ZQ

Artificial Language- Now We Sleep

Leprous meets Distorted Harmony vibe with some nice shredding & jazz piano thrown in. The debut was good, but this is way better.

Re: Beast in Black / From Hell with Love ......

That's a good track, and by all rights it should be doing something more for me..... Not sure why I'm not feeling the love for it right now. It reminds me a bit of Annette era Nightwish, perhaps? Anywho..... Back to Octavarium and MI God for me. I think you answered your own question with the last ...
