Re: Stone Leaders

It is good, but I'm hesitant to call it great. As mentioned on previous threads it does have a serious ARK flavor and the vocalist is quite good. They blur the line between heavy prog and melodic rock pretty well but I'd prefer a more focused album. I've only had it a few days so my opinion can chan...

Re: M.I.GOD- Specters on Parade

Just ordered from Amazon Prime, should be here Friday or Saturday. They appear to have a single copy remaining if anyone wants to jump. It's 23.99 but that's fine for quality. It's not like I'm buying a bunch of stuff in 2019 anyway

Re: Devin Townsend - Empath

I'm probably missing out, but I've yet to like anything Devin has put out, and there's little chance I'd care for this. I appreciate him as an artist and doing his own thing, that's great. But, much like John Arch, DT is not for me at all. Maybe one day...

Re: M.I.GOD- Specters on Parade

I wish I'd read the anti-shitting zone part before listening cause my undies would have appreciated that.

This sounds somewhere between Lyra's Legacy and Vanish, which is perfect for me cause those are great albums. I'll have to see who carries this one and pick it up. Great catch!

I've been on the forums since 1997, and I had no clue either lol! I knew it was out of character so after a few seconds to process the response I figured there was more to it. BTW NOS, incongruent opinions are just fine here so keep posting. I don't particularly care for some of the stuff posted her...

Re: Maraton - Meta

As with Rendezvous Point, this isn't really my genre but I like this. I have zero clue about Muse so that reference is lost on me, but I'll definitely check this out once released. I get the Dredg reference, though and I totally hear that. Good shout out!

Not Otherwise Specified - Deadweight

I'd not heard of them before last week, and they are very, very good. I'm not sure I'd categorize them as prog metal but more of a heavy prog that sits somewhere between Porcupine Tree's Deadwing and the first two Frost albums. They've mixed some crunchy guitars with old school key sounds very well ...

Re: Enchant: Please guide me

The best advice I can give is to purchase the live DVD. They have a great mix of songs from all their albums, and getting them in a live setting presents the tone for the songs. I absolutely adore Blueprint, but the production is horrendous. Had that been better it would be a top ten alltime disc fo...

Re: New Arch/Matheos..

I also cannot tolerate John Arch. Usually, this is when I inject an insulting simile/metaphor about his voice and its effects on my ear canal but I'll refrain as my opinion is already well known. However, this particular song is the least offensive song of his to my ears.

While I agree the talent is there, his voice, at least for me, is like rubbing a chalkboard with another chalkboard.

I'll go back and check into older Soen this weekend.

That's cool, NOS. No accounting for differences in taste. See, I have Khan in my top five singers alltime simply from his phrasing, delivery and character in his voice. And I heartily agree there are phenomenal singers with a super limited range, but the ones that stand out can emote and have some p...

Re: Soen - Lotus

I bought this on a few recommendations and while it's pretty good, I can't help but feel like pretty much ANYONE could be the singer of this band. It's all so non-descript and monotone and without soul, feel or character. Maybe that's the whole point of their sound and I'm completely in the wrong. H...

Re: Darkwater - Human (first impressions of the full disc)

This is quite good, but I'm not prepared to call it great yet. There has always been something about Bath's voice that irritates me slightly, kind of a scratchy treble edge that later day Tony Harnell songs have. I think I'd prefer a little more punch in the guitar as well on this, but overall I can...

Nine Miles Down sounds pretty great from the limited samples. Looks like yet another overseas CD that has no distro and only available through the band. That's fine, though I'll order. I just would like for bands to have more than one full song available...

Re: Top 50 Albums of 2018

I always look forward to this annual present, but it's becoming increasingly clear my strange tastes are out of alignment with the majority of this group, and that's fine. My overwhelming no.1 this year doesn't appear on anyone's list, so I'm the outlier I suppose. I really didn't have a great music...
