Re: Power Metal

My house is 100% fantasy nerdery, and I don't listen to much power metal anymore. To me it's because the music is cliched and boring. Virtually all power metal is stamped from one mold, and I just don't have much love for things coming from that mold anymore. The lyrics being silly as hell isn't eve...

I'd sorta forgotten how much I absolutely loathe BenMech until I saw his name over there. Ken's right, don't click.

Re: New stuff Friday ...

Tesseract has been my fav band in recent years, but I didn't really like the previous one (Sonder). Now they are back in form. So many fantastic moments on this album. It's really just the opening track that fails to impress me. It seems a fair number of people felt this way for whatever reason. So...

Finally checking out the new Pomegranate Tiger. It sure is interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about it overall, but it's not boring or samey like so much instrumental metal is.

Nice djenty meets next-gen prog stuff. Lots of melodies. Mardoch, there's a Spiritbox influence creeping in here, so you should dig it.

I know what you mean about going through tough times. I tried to commit suicide twice over the last 12 years(I guess I'm just not good at it) ended up in the hospital both times. Maybe one day I'll succeed, but I still credit metal for keeping me alive this long...............I feel like metal is t...

Not PM, but the festival forum proper is still at https://ultimatemetal.com/forums/progpower-usa/. It has, unfortunately, been eaten by Facebook like so many other things (rot in hell Facebook). Only King's Gene is really keeping things going over there mostly with news posts. Anyway, I refuse to le...

Listening to all of David Maxim Micic's solo stuff today. I started with the remaster of his first EP and have just been going through it all since. I love this dude's work. I think Bilo 3 is probably my favorite overall.

Unprocessed - ...and everything in between

I think they accidentally released the whole thing on Bandcamp this morning when they meant to just load it for preorder with the single Thrash open, but I managed to get a full album stream in lol. It's really good. The production feels very weird to me (vocals buried, guitars WAY loud, kinda noisy...

The Chronicles of Father Robin - The Songs & Tales of Airoea – Book 1

There's not a whole lot of prog rock that grabs me these days, but the single available on this album got my attention. I think a lot of our resident prog rock fans will find much to enjoy in this.

Re: New stuff Friday ...

The new Orbit Culture is out and it's dense and heavy as hell. It does get a bit samey, but if your goal is to get melted by a wall of heavy riffs for 48.5 minutes, this'll do the trick. https://orbitculture.bandcamp.com/album/descent The new Hemina also came out earlier this week. Put on Everblack, 11 Dreams, and The Hours that Remain back to back. All killer albums. I need to fill out the rest, I guess.

Throwing on the Nospun after that since the Earwyrm video put me in the mood for it.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Thanks to the new single from MERCENARY (https://youtu.be/xn5NH9fRiAs) which by the way is really good, I decided to go back through their back catalogue… so many great albums, but the 4-album period from “Everblack” through “Architect of Lies” is one of the best in melo-death metal history. New Earthside track! It's really good, like most of their stuff. They seem like a weird group with these hugely spaced out super high production value releases like this, but whatever I guess. I really don't hear what y'all who are saying the heaviness is missing are hearing. I am left wondering if we got the same mixes, even. Also regarding the lack of Proper Prog, that's never been Voyager's thing anyway. Their longest song doesn't breach 7 minutes, but there's still more technicality t...

Stride - Imagine (2005) Went scrolling through my collection and spotted this one. I believe they were an instrumental band prior to this release but found a vocalist for this. Voyager - Fearless in Love

https://voyager.bandcamp.com/album/fearless-in-love It's basically exactly what we knew to expect from the singles and Voyager's general trajectory. Tons of synths, smashing riffs, frenetic drums.
