Re: Mystery - Lies and Butterflies (July 14, 2018)

Great news! I think the band Huis is also coming with a new album this year... Obviously Michel St-Père is a quite busy man! It seems that he is always recording something. Can you recommend me the album I should start with? (Pour que je pratique mon français: Évidemment Michel St-Père est un homme...

Mystery - Lies and Butterflies (July 14, 2018)

We've known the release date for a long time, but this is the first news of the album title. I don't know what to expect musically but Delusion Rain was so phenomenal that it's going to have a lot to live up to. I happen to be traveling to Night of the Prog Festival to see Mystery where they'll be d...

Re: New Riverside in September....

For anyone interested, to get a preview of what you can expect from this album thematically, read this band press release and my response to it. https://www.facebook.com/andrew.bennett.39589/posts/1798453576873556 I still like even their ambient disc, but it's so long that it requires a very specifi...

Re: New Riverside in September....

I've been told to expect a dark, somber and VERY heavy album, reflecting the tremendous emotional roller coaster of the past two years in the Riverside camp. Think Covered in Black relative to past Anubis Gate outputs. Even then I doubt they can replicate the perfection of Anno Domini High Definitio...

Re: Redemption - Long Night's Journey Into Day (July 27, 2018)

I feel like the vocals are a bit low in the mix, but it does sound good. I'm excited to hear more. I wonder why Nick keeps doing that, putting the vocals so low? The vocals were also very low in the mix on This Mortal Coil. Tom still sounds great, and I have high hopes for the rest of the album. Th...

Redemption - Long Night's Journey Into Day (July 27, 2018)

We've known the album title since PPUSA and some of us were able to hear demoed songs or the full album. But now we can all enjoy hearing the full glory of the production in the newly released single. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjrM0wsEK5Y I must say it took a couple of listens to appreciate wh...

Re: Subsignal - La Muerta (May 25, 2018)

Going from this teaser, the album is going to sound somewhat like that song.

Which is okay with me. I did like the heaviness of the last album, but I do find myself preferring lighter fare nowadays and I love Subsignal's melodic side anyway.

Re: Royal Hunt - Cast In Stone

The song I heard was painfully average. I think Royal Hunt has talent but hasn't stayed with me long-term, with that said, but I don't know if I'm going to listen to the full album anytime soon.

Spock's Beard - Noise Floor (May 25, 2018)

I was among the people who liked the previous album quite a bit, although lately I haven't been listening to it often. Spock's Beard are one of the best prog-rock bands out there nowadays still. And so even if this is reportedly a bit more straight to the point than the last one, I expect it to be e...

Entransient - The Weight of Things (April 28, 2018)

You may know some of the people in this band as the one-and-done Michiganders Silent Lapse. Although that one album was fantastic. This is the second album under this banner, and if you haven't heard the first one, it's in the vein of mid-period Anathema or Katatonia and can really hit some emotiona...

Subsignal - La Muerta (May 25, 2018)

I expect something in the vein of the previous album, which although I really liked it, is not the equal of Touchstones (which is getting rotation right now). I hope on this album the band have found a level of cohesion approaching that found on Touchstones. What we have seen of some lyrics and song...

Re: New Stryper - WOW! ...

I was not really feeling this but I will give the eventual finished album a chance. The last two albums were all-around their best albums, IMO.

Re: Orphaned Land - Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs - full review

If you classified this as a mixture of their last three albums, you wouldn't be wrong. The more polished production and thicker orchestration are characteristic of All Is One, but there is a decisive return to a progressive sound. There are tons of guitars too and the heavier tracks absolutely slay....

Re: DISTANT DREAM / It all Starts from Pieces......

This is basically a proggier Widek and so fans of Widek will like this, and non-fans probably won't. Although I do tend to prefer Widek's bigger keyboard arrangements.
