Re: WALLS OF BABYLON - A Portrait Of Memories

Of those I only like Diego and Nils enough to the point where I’d check out a band due to their presence only - the rest doesn’t excite me (and you know how I feel about Romero - the rainbow killer!). I'll say again that Romero's vocals are the only saving grace of this reformed Rainbow. Blackmore'...

Re: WALLS OF BABYLON - A Portrait Of Memories

Forgot to mention that Anders Engberg (Sorcerer, ex-Lions Share, ex-Section A, ex-220 Volt) is up there in my list of fave singers as well. He can turn a good disc into a killer one just with magic vocals. Last Sorcerer is such a killer album and he's the main reason. Andy is great for sure. He is ...

You and the singers... Maybe we've already been through this, but what are your fave singers? Focusing on the MELODIC hard rock and metal only (not counting in the obvious ones like mercury, Walsh, perry etc. as those aren’t in the genres we typically discuss here - and not counting in any ...

He's surely not the greatest singer ever, but I think he does a fine job and won't stop anyone (except maybe you  ) to enjoy the album... Well actually that is exactly the problem - he is not a good singer and it does stop me from enjoying the album and I could imagine it would do so for othe...

Re: The Raven Age

The band w Steve Harris’ son in it? It’s pretty okay yeah. Nothing earthshakingly new but for melodic metal core / “bro-metal” (should appeal to fans of Tremonti, Killswitch Engage, trivium, Avenged Sevenfold...) it’s quite fine. It’s not a style of music I know enough about to tell if this is consi...

https://incura.bandcamp.com/album/incura-ii Incura. Someone in the Facebook group mentioned this band. Super theatrical latter day Savatage style rockers. Really excellent. I loved their first album. It was theatrical, cheesy as all hell, and one of the most ludicrously catchy records of that year....

Wow, moving even further into synth pop territory. This is pretty nice. I like it more than previous albums, which seemed to be lacking that certain something. Strid's vocals maybe. A little too wooden/harsh/accented for this music, though this sounds better than before . As an avid melodic rock li...

Larry: Sola would be the one you should try your hands/ears on ... it’s the heaviest and most progressive of the bunch. The Light is basically a heavier Genesis, not much hard rock to it if that’s what you’re looking for. SMPTe is the first Transatlantic disc and it was really unique for its time (a...

The entire new album is killer!!! My son and I had it on repeat all day yesterday - so far I’d say “Barcelona”, “Speedwagon”, “Lovers in the Rain” (with its ABBA leanings) and the title song are the best tunes but it might change as every single song here is phenomenal. I’m never gonna be a Björn St...

Re: Alkaloid- Technical death metal meets Yes

I can’t decide if I prefer this over the debut - the “rawness” has gone but the chops are still there. These guys obviously knows what’s up and what’s down on their instruments... at times though it seems a bit too calculated and too “nice”, whereas the debut was more wild and crazy. Either way, in ...

Thanks Glenn - I bought this based on your recommendation and I really am digging it. One word: breathtaking! I love this band and especially the first two albums. The third one was “meh”... Really awesome tune. Probably listened 20+ times already this morning. Love it.
Played it for my 7-year old son in the car. His first comment was "They sound like ABBA". And yes, sure enough, this song is definitely ABBA inspired.
