Re: Sharon den Adel - My Indigo. Her solo disc......

This is total Florence and the Machine worship. I like it, but I'd spin Florence over this in a heartbeat when I'm in the mood. I don't agree at all - I don't hear any FatM in this. Florence is much more inspired by soul and gospel (interestingly enough for a british band), whereas My Indigo is lai...

Re: Sharon den Adel - My Indigo. Her solo disc......

Count me in the “she can sing the phone book and I’ll be happy” camp. I bought it blindly on iTunes and I’m really digging it. That said, it’s not too far removed from a lot of other music I listen to, so perhaps I’m not necessarily the prime example of a metal-only-fan-expanding-his/her-horizons. ...

Plenty of room for both of you on the front porch to yell at the kids on the lawn.... All jokes aside, this is one of the things I’m most looking forward to once I’m old and retired. I love being that annoying guy that kids just hate or even worse, are embarrassed about. Yesterday we were out for a...

Re: Shadow Gallery / Tyranny - the best ever.

I enjoy it, but I can't to say it's better than Carved in Stone nor Room V. I kind of see those 3 about equal. Enjoy the LaBrie and DC Cooper appearances. The story almost reminds me of The Matrix or Tron or something. And as odd as it is to say, despite the drum machine, I still find the S/T debut...

I posted an albums release date Calendar about 1988 a few months ago here . Death - Leprosy it may not be "progressive" but certainly was technical. Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys II more Power Metal of course, but it shares some qualities certainly was an influence on a lot later p...

I like it quite a lot actually - it might be their best since El Niño. It’s back to the proggy Eldritch, with only occasional hints of the more thrashy style.

1984 also has a claim on being a special year. You could argue that it was the year of the first full-length progressive metal album: most likely QR's _The Warning_. But Warlord's _And the Cannons of Destruction Have Begun..._ might have a claim to the title, as does Fates Warning's _NIght on Brock...

Let's look at quite a younger disc - Haken / Aquarius and Visions. Both are great sounding discs to begin with, and very young for a re-master. I'm sure some are rolling their eyes asking why would a band do this so soon ? One listen to Aquarius on a good system and you will have your answer. Visio...

About Queensrÿche - Rage For Order, I say at least as progressive as Operation: Mindcrime if not more. I wrote on my website that RFO is my first classic prog metal album. It was released in 1986. Not much prog metal albums in that year. On this post I wanted to focus on 1988 and talk about the pro...

Re: 1988: Metal bands starting to add a progressive element to their music...

I don't want to start a genre war so you can replace the word "progressive" by "complex" if you prefer... Some metal bands in the list may have started before 1988 to add a progressive element to their music. I also included in the list their 1988 prog metal album... But I think...

Psychotic Waltz were amazing back then - I saw them multiple times on those amazing 4 albums (when they toured Europe fairly regularly). Picked up the album on iTunes last night and been listening since then (sometimes I listen to music while sleeping). Poem is awesome. That singer is god-like (same guy from Mother of Millions), and the music just destroys the spot. I like it just as much as their debut 'Skein Syndrome'.
