Re: Night Ranger
I'm probably the only one that will tell you this, but I love Feeding Off the Mojo which even the band pretends doesn't exist anymore (I'm sure due to the fact that only 2 original members played on it). I think Gary Moon, the hired gun for the album, did a great job and wish he'd done more after th...

Re: ARENA / The Theory of Molecular Inheritance ......
I bought the 2 CD earbook. I have it for quite some time now. I like the singer Damian Wilson but I identify more the previous singer Paul Manzi to the band Arena. It's like losing a bit their identity. I feel this way maybe because Damian Wilson has been in many bands. I like the album. But to be ...

Re: PENDRAGON / Fallen Dreams and Angels - and all the loose ends.
I tend to think of Pendragon as having 3, maybe 4, distinct eras. Era 1 is the 80s stuff (The Jewel, Kowtow and associated EPs and whatnot) which has a distinct 80s sound to it. This is the stuff I listen to the least, by a fairly large margin. Era 2 is the 90s and early 2000s stuff (The World throu...

I'm too lazy to make a list so I'll just say Cyclone Temple's I Hate Therefore I Am is the best Thrash album and leave it at that.

I did swing a digital copy of the new Edu Falaschi disk this week and after the first spin, he's definitely trying to be Rebirth era Angra. If you like that sort of thing check it out. He's not quite the singer he was 10 years ago, he reaches some on this disk and maybe shouldn't, but by and large ...

Re: How did you end up here?
I honestly don't remember the specifics. It would have been circa 97/98 when I first discovered Dream Theater thanks to a fraternity brother. Some searching resulted in my stumbling on (I think) Dr Metal's page which introduced me to Vanden Plas and Empty Tremor. I'm sure somewhere in there was when...

The only bands I have in my (extensive) collection with that song title are Silent Call and Elis. If it was a dude singing, try Silent Call. If it was a lady, try Elis. That's all I got.
Re: W.A.S.P.?
You're missing a lot!! Honestly, based on my memory of Larry's dislike of Hansi's vocals it doesn't surprise me that he wouldn't like even good (THC and beyond) W.A.S.P. as I would consider Hansi the singer closest in sound to Blackie. ****Exactly right - although it goes a lot deeper than t...

Re: W.A.S.P.?
The first 3 albums are fine for what they are, shock rock with little to no attempt to be anything else. Headless Children is where they *really* stepped up their game and I still think that one is my favorite, though the aforementioned Crimson Idol is amazing as well. Really the only album outside ...

Re: Black Fate - “Ithaca” - 10/23
3 thoughts on this since it dropped last week.... 1. It **really** scratches that classic, Parallel Minds/In Your Multitude Conception itch as others have mentioned, with a hint of the more guitar hero antics of Kamelot 2. I didn't think it was possible for Vasilis to be more indistinguishable from ...

I'm going to be in the minority here and say the narration doesn't bother me one bit. Overall I enjoy the album. Is it because I had my expectations lowered by people here and elsewhere and was in mind that this would be something akin to The Astonishing? Perhaps. But this is not sleep-inducingly du...

Re: Pagan's Mind and Shadow Gallery?
re: Pagan's Mind, I listened to an interview with Jørn Viggo Lofstad the other day and he said they had enough material for an album. The hold up is that a couple band members basically can't be in the same room with one another and they've all agreed that the band only continues with all of them on...

Surreal - Starmaps & Constellations. These guys have a couple previous albums, but this sounds like a step up in all departments. It's in the Arena / Threshold / Frost* / Neal Morse Band camp. A bit neo-proggish, but this is a bit heavier overall than their previous work. Production is superb, soun...

Hey, I'll go back even further and deeper into the archives of forgotten and misfit prog metal. Here's another older one that I paid zero attention to at the time but sounds pretty damn good to my ears now. Re: Pretty Maids after the album "Stripped" (1993)?
Anything Worth Doing, Carpe Diem, Planet Panic and Wake Up to the Real World all fall into this "meh" category, where there are some good songs on all albums, but neither of them are perfect. It was like the band kind of lost touch with their roots in the early part of 2000's. What did you think of...

Yeah the Oneira project was “okay” but it wasn’t Everon :) Neither was the Phantasma project (with Georg from Serenity and Charlotte from Delain), nor the Satyrian band. There was just something unique about the 7 Everon discs which Oliver wasn’t able to recreate anywhere else. Oh I agree, but in a...

I dearly love Everon and it made me so sad that they put that band to rest to focus on producing and what not. Fantasma has always been my favorite. I'm not sure if anyone remembers but in 2014 we did get what might as well have been some new Everon songs, though. Oliver appeared on several tracks o...
