Re: New stuff Friday ...

QUEENSRYCHE / Operation: Mindcrime - vinyl newly remastered at Abbey Rd Studio. (Thanks to you). The recent 180g vinyl was a big disappointment and sounded lame compared to the re-mastered CD. I'm hoping that this one steps it up to where it finally should be. From what I read, this will be the las...

Re: Redemption clones

My personal issues with people aside, I will largely agree with Claus here. The only thing that was "new" that Nick ever really seemed to try to add was some good melodic hooks. Truth be told, few progmetal bands have managed to write choruses as catchy as Nick came up with a lot of the time. And he...

Re: Pain of Savation / BE ..... vinyl edition.

Interesting... I'd expect better care to be taken on the vinyl master. Curious. Are any of your other albums sounding similarly harsh? Is it a setup or stylus wear issue? Did you do a good cleaning on it before playing? I've noticed some fairly significant changes on the sound of albums after cleani...

****That Evergrey / Mayadome show was absolutely magical -- one of the best 1-2 punch shows ever...... and then add in Lethal, and it didn't get much better for a Powermad show. Amazing. Not to get too off-topic here, but I went to that show specifically for Mayadome (man, I need to dig that back o...

Powermad is where lots of us originally met - my friendships with Glenn, Ken, Todd, Guy, STevie and so many others started in 1997 at the first Powermad .....one day, while a lot of us were sitting around the huge tables they had at Powermad, someone mentioned the legendary words - " I can do bette...

Re: How did you end up here?

Some time in 1996, I was working at an area grocery store with one of the original members of the band Enertia. Through him and some other coworkers, I got exposed to some of the less known metal like Angra's Angel's Cry, Fates Warning, etc. In 1997 the MP3 explosion really took off. Being broke and...

"Very" may be the most DT-clone of DT-clone albums, but it's also just a very enjoyable listen. Nope. THIS is the most DT-clone of all clones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIdlP9BLD6I Now, to be clear, I have no issue with clones if done well, and this is definitely done well. Tell me that first...

"Very" may be the most DT-clone of DT-clone albums, but it's also just a very enjoyable listen. I've heard some of the post-Hubi material, and it was fine, but it never clicked with me. It might simply be due to how my tastes of grown, or due to how much other good stuff there is to compete for atte...

I too find it surprising that Hubi's voice just worked on Very. While the first album might be better in some ways, Very is the one that I have always enjoyed the most.

Aww, that sucks. I'm not that big a Nightwish fan, but I found Marko entertaining when they performed at PPUSA with Tarja. I hope he gets through whatever he's dealing with OK.

Re: Bandcamp profiles (aka a little light stalking on the side)

Bandcamp is actually one of my favorite places to buy from. I can sample the album, and if I like it, buy it and make sure that more of the money goes directly to the artist. It also makes the best use of compressed audio streaming imaginable. It's going to be out there anyway, so by making it so mu...

I remember seeing them at ProgPower USA. I hadn't heard them previously, and while I knew Teddy from when Mayadome played Powermad '99, I knew nothing about them. When they took the stage, a lot of us were confused and wondering what the hell was going on with the bizarre mix of outfits. I did recal...

Well, this grump got bored with Kamelot before Khan left. Fourth Legacy through Black Halo is where it's at for me. After that, Khan started sounding really bored, along with his voice changing a bit. I've stated it in pretty much every discussion about the new Conception releases: Khan sounds excit...

Cool. I like the new track. Not as enthused about a super long album as I used to be back in the 90's, as they almost always seem to end up with too much filler. But I guess we'll see. If memory serves, I enjoyed Theories of Flight more than Darkness in a Different Light . It's also nice to see that...

My favorites from them are easily Out of Myself, Rapid Eye Movement, and the Voices in My Head EP. The later stuff, even with Piotr, just hasn't done as much for me. I only saw them live once, with Jolly opening (also a good band), and was bummed that they didn't do any material from OoM. I don't th...

I've liked the tunes I've heard so far. Doesn't seem all that different from Flow or the EP.
