Re: Conception back with classic line-up!

I am still waiting for my vinyl to arrive. No complaints from me, when you sign up for these things, your patience will be tested. An example is 3 or so years ago I donated to the Moonsorrow doco and it is still nowhere near finished. It's not the fact that you'll have to wait until it's finished -...

Re: Conception back with classic line-up!

Finally got my vinyl copy on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately it had been packed with the t-shirt I'd ordered as well, and even though the shirt was carefully folded, the vinyl developed a dish warp in transit. Balls.

Re: Conception back with classic line-up!

My vinyl copy of the EP and a t-shirt shipped early this week. I enjoy the digital download of the EP. I prefer it to Last Sunset, but don't like it as much as the other albums. I have to give it more time, and keep in mind that it's been over 20 freakin' years since Flow, so it's bound to be differ...

Lykaia was the best of the 3 so far, IMO. And yes, they sound better to me than what Opeth became after Lopez left.

Dali's Dilemma demos when they were still Chaos Theory were better than the final album, IMO. Especially the far shorter version of Living in Fear. I never was able to track those down again. :(

Re: New Evergrey album

For me, someone who most enjoys "Torn", "The Atlantic" is easily the best of these last three albums. Oof. That doesn't bode well, then. Torn was probably their second worst album, with Monday Morning Apocalypse taking the Golden Turd trophy. Torn was just boring and lifeless. W...

Largely instrumental ambient progmetal. If Glenn's link doesn't convince you, don't bother with the rest, but I'd be shocked if that didn't do it for you.

Seriously, Claus, how the hell have you not heard AtomA!? Good stuff there! Mastered too hot, but wonderful music. Only gotten to listen to the EP once so far. Not quite what I expected, but still good. I need to give it more time to adjust for expectations. I'm kind of bummed that Feather Moves isn...

Re: Conception back with classic line-up!

What I do find interesting is that Roy sounds like Kamelot Roy, but energized. His voice will never sound like the old Conception days again, that's just biology. But what I found boring about post Black Halo Kamelot is that Roy sounded bored. He does not sound bored here. He sounds invested. No, he...

Re: Conception back with classic line-up!

This should be mind-blowing. Watching Tore with Ark at PPUSA all those years back is still one of my fondest musical memories. Yes, this is my annual Ark lament post. Agreed. I've long lamented Tore's departure from the business, given that he's one of the few players in the genre that can shred wi...

I adored Hymns. The most recent one was in a similar vein but never quite hooked me. As long as they don't slide back into the awfulness of MMA or lifelessness of Torn, I'm good.

I don't think the production was off, just a harsh mastering. But most modern (post-'92) metal is like that.

Earlier than that. Remember Nightingale at PPUSA2? Not metal AT ALL, and barely prog. I'd say Poets is proggier, even while being somewhat poppy.

Thanks for saying, but unlikely to happen. Other financial priorities and lowered tolerance/interest WRT concerts in general are big enough reasons. But I'm stoked that those bands will be there. That's awesome.

Re: MICHAEL ROMEO - War Of The Worlds Pt. 1

My impressions are positive overall. I think that if the singer (who I'd take over Labrie any damn day) just changed his pronunciation a little, he'd sound much better, and the album as a whole would have improved as a result.' For example, in the song "Differences", he keeps pronouncing i...

Here's another one that sadly slipped into obscurity: Lemur Voice - Divided . I mean, everyone here knows Marcel, but when was the last time you listened to Lemur Voice? Quiet Room was awesome I actually appreciated the attempt for them to get modern with Reconcieve with the Johnathan Davis meets Ray Alder style vox, even if at times it wasn't executed well.. 3 killer albums I still play. 1st Lions Share was also pretty good IMO. Andy Engberg ruled back then and still rules today with the last Sorcerer who was killer and my #1 of 2017. I don’t recall anyone on this forum talking junk about vinyl. A few members here are spinning vinyl. Just wait. The detractors will show up to thread-crap soon enough. By digitizing aren’t you compromising the sound? Sure, but how much compromise depends on gear and processing. That can also be sai...

Oh, and I don't know about more recent Queensryche remasters, but the 2000(?) remaster of Rage for Order was just another dynamically compressed ear bleeder with bonus tracks (similar problem with Cynic - Focus). Thus far, the original vinyl release is the best one available that I've heard. Certain...
