Re: Conception back with classic line-up!

What I do find interesting is that Roy sounds like Kamelot Roy, but energized. His voice will never sound like the old Conception days again, that's just biology. But what I found boring about post Black Halo Kamelot is that Roy sounded bored. He does not sound bored here. He sounds invested. No, he...

Re: Haken - Vector - my track-by-track review

I liked the previous couple of albums, but the tracks that I've heard from this new one don't really click with me. *shrug*

Re: Conception back with classic line-up!

This should be mind-blowing. Watching Tore with Ark at PPUSA all those years back is still one of my fondest musical memories. Yes, this is my annual Ark lament post. Agreed. I've long lamented Tore's departure from the business, given that he's one of the few players in the genre that can shred wi...

Re: New Evergrey album

I adored Hymns. The most recent one was in a similar vein but never quite hooked me. As long as they don't slide back into the awfulness of MMA or lifelessness of Torn, I'm good.

Re: The underappreciated (Black Symphony)

I don't think the production was off, just a harsh mastering. But most modern (post-'92) metal is like that.

Re: Ghost Ship Octavius - Delirium

Sweet! I loved the first album. Hope the new one holds up. Bummer that the original bassist left. Not enough women in metal bands.

EDIT: Hmmm... That first released track doesn't sound much like the previous album at all. Not sure how I feel about this...

Earlier than that. Remember Nightingale at PPUSA2? Not metal AT ALL, and barely prog. I'd say Poets is proggier, even while being somewhat poppy.

Thanks for saying, but unlikely to happen. Other financial priorities and lowered tolerance/interest WRT concerts in general are big enough reasons. But I'm stoked that those bands will be there. That's awesome.

Sorcerer never quite hooked me, but I *AM* thrilled to see that Andy Engberg will be performing at PPUSA. I remember chatting with Teri about his work with Twilight when we met at the very first PPUSA in Chicago. Good times.

Re: MICHAEL ROMEO - War Of The Worlds Pt. 1

My impressions are positive overall. I think that if the singer (who I'd take over Labrie any damn day) just changed his pronunciation a little, he'd sound much better, and the album as a whole would have improved as a result.' For example, in the song "Differences", he keeps pronouncing i...

Re: The Forgotten Heroes of Prog Metal Thread

Here's another one that sadly slipped into obscurity: Lemur Voice - Divided . I mean, everyone here knows Marcel, but when was the last time you listened to Lemur Voice? I never listened to the first album (or if I did, it was just a sample that didn't hook me), but I loved Divided. Their take on Be...

What an incredible thread.. I kinda came on board at the tail end of the classic era of prog in 2000 and had a lot of catching up to do That's fortunate for you. You managed to dodge the real stinkers that slipped in there, like Altura and Arkhe. :P LOL Now that was a funny (and somewhat true) stat...

Re: The Forgotten Heroes of Prog Metal Thread

Quiet Room was awesome I actually appreciated the attempt for them to get modern with Reconcieve with the Johnathan Davis meets Ray Alder style vox, even if at times it wasn't executed well.. One of the few things we can agree on. I quite enjoyed Reconceive. The passing of that vocalist is utterly t...

Re: The Forgotten Heroes of Prog Metal Thread

3 killer albums I still play. 1st Lions Share was also pretty good IMO. Andy Engberg ruled back then and still rules today with the last Sorcerer who was killer and my #1 of 2017. Anders still sounds great, but I just can't get into Sorcerer. Doom metal bores me to tears, with only a very small han...

Here's some other forgotten gems, IMO: Eniac Requiem - Space Eternal Void (this desperately needs a remaster with drum triggers that don't suck so badly) Lion's Share - two Lion's Share - Fall From Grace The Quiet Room - Introspect Enertia - Force Twilight - Eye for an Eye Event - Electric Skies (I ...

Madsword - The Global Village Always loved this one. Been a while. Might be time to break it back out. Power Of Omens - Eyes Of The Oracle Always WANTED to love this one, but never did. My attitude was always that it sounded like each musician was playing an entirely different piece of music. Liked...

Re: New Riverside in September....

I hadn't really warmed to the past several releases previously. Then I threw the whole discography on my phone for some recent long trips and have been very much enjoying the newer stuff on shuffle with everything else. The loss of Piotr (whose soloing was a big part of my love for the band) is stil...

Re: The post about re-masters ....... good or bad ?

I don’t recall anyone on this forum talking junk about vinyl. A few members here are spinning vinyl. Just wait. The detractors will show up to thread-crap soon enough. By digitizing aren’t you compromising the sound? Sure, but how much compromise depends on gear and processing. That can also be sai...

Re: The post about re-masters ....... good or bad ?

Oh, and I don't know about more recent Queensryche remasters, but the 2000(?) remaster of Rage for Order was just another dynamically compressed ear bleeder with bonus tracks (similar problem with Cynic - Focus). Thus far, the original vinyl release is the best one available that I've heard. Certain...

Re: The post about re-masters ....... good or bad ?

I've digitized my copy of In Absentia, and it's vastly superior to any official digital versions that I've found. I don't recall a download card in the vinyl packaging for a digital version of the more dynamic remaster, so I guess it's vinyl only. But since so many people in these forums are so insi...

Re: The post about re-masters ....... good or bad ?

Most remasters sound like ass, as they simply seem to add more compression to make everything sound "louder". Steven Wilson's recent remasters have thankfully gone in the other direction. The 2017/2018 remasters of In Absentia and Deadwing are vastly superior to the originals. This is unus...
