Re: Apparently Warkings wasn’t enough ...

I see a big difference here. Warkings is a serious attempt at jumping on the popularity of the masked/power metal genre. They are pushing it, touring, etc. I didn't care for it, but I don't think the label views this as a joke. Cash grab, sure. The other is just Christopher getting really drunk and ...

Wonderful list - and a heck of a job compiling all this for us! Can't wait to spend some time to go through it all and check out those albums I haven't heard yet.. Thanks. Our taste diverge quite a bit at times so I really look forward to your list as well. I'm sure I blew several releases off I sh...

Re: Top 50 Albums of 2018

How many years have you done this? I ask because I saw last year's list, but nothing before then. If you keep an archive of previous years' top 50s, I'd love to see them and mine for things I've overlooked. I have been doing it a long ass time on various forums. I never archived anything. However, ...

Welcome to the big pain in the ass Top 50 of 2018 list! There may be a few weeks left this year, but I have received essentially all of the unreleased discs for the year I’m interested in. I encourage you to take your time with sampling all the music below. I guarantee you missed a few gems along th...

Digital Ruin did a 4 song demo for Dwelling in the Out when they were shopping for a label. Those versions destroyed the final versions on the album.

Re: New Evergrey album

I enjoy Nos' writing and his reviews. He sticks to his guns and is brutally honest in what he feels. You just have to keep his tastes in perspective. I pay attention when he critiques pop and melodic rock. That's his wheelhouse and he is spot on. However, with prog and power, he's basically the anti...

Subsignal - I was late to the party on this band, but I went crazy on all their stuff and picked everything by them over the last year. Can't even make it though this one. I don't get it?! Dilemma- Random Acts of Liberation

This one is more for the Larry D/wuss kind of crowd. It's melodic prog rock that fits somewhere between Enchant and Porcupine Tree.

I'm with SEK. It's not Kingcrow production perfection, but it's not St. Anger Part 2 either. I enjoy it for what it is as opposed to what it is not. If there was a prolific amount of this type of music being made currently, perhaps I'd be more Clausian with my listens.

I had to grin at that. I consider their latest, "A Complex of Cages," an album of the year candidate. It's a great mix of old Opeth and Amorphis. Btw, I'm not sure if you have any tolerance for growls at all, but the vocals are about a 70/30 split throughout the disc in favor of the clean...

Speaking of Poets....

If prog fans heard this song without knowing who it was or any preconceived notions, I'd bet my left nut that many would welcome it with open arms as an amazing unknown prog band.

I read an article/review of The Paradox Twin- The Importance of Mr. Bedlam in last month's Prog Magazine. *Wow* This is some fantastic heavy prog rock, It has that old school UK prog flavor with modern elements of Porcupine Tree & Threshold added. The vocals are excellent. https://www.youtube.co...
