Re: Stryper radio airplay in the 80s?
I think this depends partly on where you lived. Detroit in the late 80s / early 90s had three really good hard rock / metal radio stations, and one of them (Z-Rock, national affiliate station) played a wider range of metal (well, metal and hair metal I guess) than MTV ever did. Yeah; I grew up at t...

Re: Stryper radio airplay in the 80s?
It (and most other metal) was mostly an MTV thing. I remember Honestly being played sometimes at high school dances, but I don't remember ever hearing it (or anything else from Stryper) on the radio.
I saw them (and discovered them, actually) on MTV all the time.

Definitely Seventh Wonder for me. Kingcrow was meh; not enough energy. Puts me to sleep every time I listen to it. Ostura was good and requires more listening, but didn't hook me like Seventh Wonder did. Romeo was excellent; Haken was excellent.

This is an awesome disc. Played it non-stop in college in 1990.

Re: Haken - Vector - my track-by-track review
At this point this is the same thing that I lament about Ross' vocals. He doesn't have an explosive power of any sort that we've seen. He's just consistently nice (pure and clear are exactly the words I use for his tone as well). I kind of long for a bit of that Emeril style BAM every so often. We'...

Re: New Seventh Wonder tune
I just can't help feeling bad for one of the best bass players in the world ........ I wouldn't feel too bad. I think he helped mix it! :) He was involved in the production, but not mixing. See my post above where I manually typed stuff from the booklet for all you people who don't have it. ;-) May...

Re: Neal Morse - Similitude Live in Tilburg 2017 bluray....
Neal is amazing. I echo all the recommendations here, but also want to put my vote in for the ? (Question Mark) album. Of Neal's stuff, Sola Scriptura and ? are my favorites, hands down. Since the superlatives for Sola have already been mentioned, I'll just talk about ? for a bit. It's a prog master...

It's the binary code of the ASCII symbol for "Y". As in, why? Maybe that makes it easier to remember.....

Re: Dokken: After "Live 1981" recorded in 1983 we now get "Return To The East Live" recorded more than the half in the U
I don't know about you, but this track always struck me as a tweak at Don Dokken, and makes me smile every time I hear it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJ9yiX5YlNs Nah..... This was years and years after that. Plus, pretty sure Michael Sweet wrote the lyrics. I didn't mean it was talking about D...

Re: Dokken: After "Live 1981" recorded in 1983 we now get "Return To The East Live" recorded more than the half in the U
For me, Dokken was Lynch all the way. Never listened to anything past Back for the Attack (their best, IMO). Don's voice blended in with all those California hair metal bands, so he was passable in the 80s, but unremarkable for today. Lynch, however, has an immediately recognizable style and sound....

Re: New Kamelot single
I'm looking forward to hearing the entire album before making a final decision, but I have to say that I might be 'done' with Kamelot. Not for any other reason than their newer material just leaves me a bit 'meh'. I'm not going to join the 'bring back the 'Karma' era, but that was their best period...

Re: New Stryper - WOW! ...
I've been listening to their new stuff. Here's a brief summary of the modern releases: 1. Reborn (2005). Generic, low quality, mostly forgettable rock. No solos to speak of. Clearly pandering to "modern" listeners. Recommended skip. 2. Murder by Pride (2009). A few steps up from Reborn. So...

Re: New Stryper - WOW! ...
From Michael Sweet (via Facebook): Folks, we were asked (by many fans mind you) to do something a little heavier and that bordered on "thrash". We did just that. We also did it for ourselves, after all this is our art. Many people love it, some hate it. Obviously those who love it like hea...

Re: New Stryper - WOW! ...
I think I'd prefer same old / same old. Not loving the chorus AT ALL. Reminds me of the first time I heard Helloween's "Push." I didn't like it at first, but eventually it grew on me. I think this happens when you transition from the one being screamed at, to understanding why the screami...
