Re: Maiden United - Empire of the Clouds

Maiden United is really well done across the board. Haven’t heard this one.

The last album IM was ok, but could have been special with a Martin Birch on board. Needed better arrangements and production. Some trimming too.

I have all the MU releases, and will check out as well.

Sounds a lot like SX to me. Solid stuff. Singer certainly has a Russ vibe. Hoping for more diversity here, and having JM on drums is way cool.

Re: SUBSIGNAL / La Muerta ..... first thoughts.

This is quite light, but there is just something about Subsignal that is soothing to the soul. This reminds me of AoR prog, or Prog bands going lighter, and more commercial. Bands like Kansas, or Toto (strong Toto vibe on a song or 2), Yes and Rush are good examples as well. Will see how it goes ove...

Beyond the Bridge is fantastic! Still spin that one on a regular basis. PP show was amazing. So sad we lost the guitarist shortly after.

Circle Of Illusion rings a bell, but can't place it. Will explore.

Re: New Seventh Wonder tune

This is in no way a dig at Kamelot, because I've said all I've said on that score...but this is the Tommy that I want to hear - full of passion, individuality and lending his killer pipes to some excellent, intelligent and melodic prog. No-one sounds quite like SW and that's the biggest accolade I ...

While not my favorites, I did enjoy the 2 disc with Paul. Haven’t heard the new one yet. Glad it hit the spot for you bro.

For whatever reason, I wasn’t feeling the need to rush out and grab this, but I’m more intrigued now.

Re: New Seventh Wonder tune

I think happy prog is their thing. The music in general has an uplifting vibe. At least for me. Yet, they are so damn catchy that the complexity of it could sneak by unnoticed by the average listener. However, many of those happy sounding songs, have a dark story to tell. Even on WitW. Mercy Falls i...

Re: Redemption - Long Night's Journey Into Day (July 27, 2018)

Knowing their closeness to Glenn and Glenn's being huge fan of them plus their PP involvement, I would not be surprised this pairing was Glenn's doing :) Redemption is automatic blind buy for me. I also do not listen any samples first glimpses etc. I get the album I sit down and let the whole album...

Killer song! I really dig Black Clouds overall. There are some rough passages lyrically like most all they records aside from the early stuff. I think Images and Awake had some great lyrics actually.

Re: LaBrie cancels PPUSA performance

Dream Theater: -need to demo -need to play new songs live before they record them -need an outside producer none of these things seem to ever happen anymore, and have very little chance of happening again as long as the band members are happy with the way they are doing things. I don’t necessarily ...

DT has some good, even great songs on their past several albums, but I don't think they made a truly great album in quit some time. The Astonishing being an all time low mark. I'm still a fan, and always hope their next one will be another masterpiece. Petrucci is still a bad ass guitar player. Hope...

I like some of that stuff too, particularly Thank You Scientist. EX EYE might be a metal version of that style, with a strong avant-garde edge. Hell, last year's Leprous and Soen had commonalities with "new prog." I saw Thank You Scientist live for the 3rd time last week. Love that band. ...

Larry - they used something like 30 cameras and I’m thinking some were shot on video instead of film.
