Re: New Bruce Dickinson solo track
It's the best song he's done since Tyranny of Souls. It doesn't say much, as Maiden has sucked so hard for such a long time. But I enjoyed the song quite a bit. Nothing mindblowing, though

Re: Bruce Dickinson solo albums
I also recently revisited a good chunk of his solo discography. It brought some surprises as I liked Tattooed Millionaire much, much more than I used to, while Skunkworks wasn't as interesting as I remembered it, and Balls to Picasso might now be my least favorite of his, though Tears of the Dragon ...

Re: Silent Skies on AM Local News????
The album came up in my wife's "recommended" list of new albums on Tidal. This is the first time ever I've seen anything even metal related being recommended to her.

Re: Cradle of Filth suggestions?
I had a hard time getting in to Cradle of Filth, but the curtain finally dropped for me with Existence is Futile, and then went back and realised I enjoyed the older albums as well.
I really like these ones:
Existence is Futile
Hammer of the Witches
Nymphetamine
Cruelty and the Beast

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I think the only two of their albums I really never revisit are “Siege Perilious” and “Fourth Legacy”. I don't think I've listened to anything before Karma in a very long time. I do agree that Eternity was a decent album, and gets a bit too much flak. Should revisit. I’ve never been the biggest fan...

My top albums of 2022
For those that care: here are my thoughts and lists of music from 2022. I've seen many people complain about 2022 being a weak year for new metal releases. I wholeheartedly disagree this assesment. Across a wide range of genres, there has been many excellent albums, making this one of the best years...

Re: My Top 100 of 2022
Hah, I hadn't expected you to like it ... let alone find it "exciting ... and exciting" (double-exciting, huh?) It has some stuff I dislike like the growls and occassional style changes that doesn't interest me. It's nicely balanced out by its exciting parts, where I obviously love the techy guitar...

Re: My Top 100 of 2022
Nice list, Claus. I found some gems here I didn't know already. Dance Gavin Dance was surprisingly exciting, fun and exciting. Doomocracy is spectacular, and has been playing for a bit for me lately. A shame I missed them earlier this year. Deathless Legacy, Parius and Ring of Fire should also get s...

Re: Top Favorite Power Metal Albums ... rank them
Oh yeah. The first Anubis Gate still gets a lot of play here. Not sure what I would call them either, but it's not a typical power or prog metal band.Random Axe wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 8:39 pmI guess I may revise my entry if Anubis Gate's first two albums are considered power metal. Not totally sure what they are other than great.

Decided to just do a top 15 power metal, but in no specific order: Angra - Temple of Shadows Stratovarius - Episode Manticora - Hyperion Hammerfall - Legacy of Kings Blind Guardian - Imaginations From the Other Side Falconer - Chapters from a Vale Forlorn Kamelot - Karma Iced Earth - Dark Saga Gamma...

Re: Spheric Universe Experience - Back Home...
I love the album. I've been listening to a lot the last few weeks. For me, the debut was hard to top, but this one seriously takes it to the next level on every single parameter. Easily the best classic prog metal album I've heard in a loong time.

Thanks for sharing. It seems our tastes aren't that similar this year, but Warrior Path, Loch Vostok, Subterranean Masquerade, Need and Dream Theater are shared. There's a few that I hadn't listened to, but it was only the new Edu Falaschi that was of interest to me. But holy smokes... it's good. It...

Re: 25 years since Storm of the Lights Bane
Masterpiece! Nödtveidt obviously had a lot of issues, but writing excellent music wasn't one of them. The riffs, the atmosphere, and oh yes... the melodies. It's still the album "to beat" in the admittedly narrow genre. But even if you expand to put it up against melo-death and black metal respectiv...

Re: Manticora - To Live To Kill To Live
Love this album. An easy candidate for album of the year for me. It's unmistakenly Manticora, but it's impressive how they manage to evolve all the time. I could live without some of the atmospheric moments, but it's my only "complaint." Slaughter in the Desert Room, Goodbye Tina, Katana - Beheaded ...

Good f'ing list, except... Fiction? It's solid, but really a distillation of their earlier sound. I would have gone with _The Gallery_ or _The Mind's I_. Fiction was everything great about DT when it came out. It still is. I absolutely adore that album. Objectively, however, I certainly see your po...

Fantastic list. A few on it I haven't heard yet. I'm surprised about your number one spot, though. I tried and tried with Port Noir, but I just can't get into the new album. The songwriting can't even hold my attention for the duration of the album. My loss, I guess, as it certainly has elements I l...

My top 25 of 2019
Overall, 2019 was a great year for me. I continued my musical leanings towards the more extreme genres, as that just seems to tickle me the right way these days. Maybe it's because I feel that black metal, as a genre, still manages to move forward and do new things, creating for some awesome surpris...

Re: It has slowed down - halfway thru the year.....
I think it's a very solid year so far in all genres. Many established bands that I like are dissapointing me (Soilwork, Sabaton, Fallujah, In Flames, Amon Amarth, Evergrey) but many relative newcomers are shocking me (Equipoise, Sühnopfer, Vehemence, Klingwall, and Darkwater) Here are some favorites...

Check this out. The first time I heard it, I thought it was okay, but after a second listen I loved it. It's not normally for me, but they have a Fair To Midland Vibe I can't describe.

I didn't understand the reference, but I still read it as a joke.
With that said, I think I'll have to wait a few months, and then listen to the album again. It did nothing for me, which is weird, but maybe I just wasn't in the right mood.
