Re: 2018 So Far

I don't think there's been a single release this year that has done much for me. Certainly nothing that owns my soul like the last Distorted Harmony, which I'm currently spinning (I'm also not listening to *nearly* enough music which is almost entirely relegated to my working hours). The new Spock'...

Re: 2018 So Far

As much as it sounds rock, my problem with it is that all 3 CDs sound the same and are boring as hell. Yeah, if a band is going to ask listeners to have the patience to stick with a very, very long studio album, then a sense of direction to the music is critical. It needs to feel like each song is ...

Re: 2018 So Far

Dang Larry, and I was so excited for Therion too. Amazon has 10 reviews and all of them were 5 star ratings, calling it absolutely "epic".....I'll trust your judgement on this one, as many are saying it's more rock than metal, and I always prefer their metal stuff, so I have a feeling I'd...

Someone was nice enough to let me hear this one .... and I have to say I'm blown away. This could be the best Amorphis disc I've heard since getting into them around the Prog Power time.......I am no Amorphis expert, and am a fan since that PP time, but I have to say that this disc is just blowing m...

Re: ANTHRIEL - Transcendence - blend of shadow gallery and Symphony X

I really enjoyed the music exactly as you describe it ....... I didn't go back and read my posts on it, but I'm almost positive that I had some problems with the singer after a few tunes...... while he is good, I thought his voice started to grate on me after a few songs........accent maybe ?

Hi David ---

We've been through Anthriel before ........... you can read some of thoughts on the band here - unless you wanted to resurrect the band ?

Not trying to put together any sort of top ten yet or anything..... But I found myself in the car the other day amazed at the number of QUALITY new discs I had in the rotation. Yes, with all of the great releases coming out in waves, all of a sudden it got very quiet around here.......... maybe the summer kicked in and everyone went on vacation ?

Sorry to be the Debbie downer, but I can't be the only one who wishes this band would do more of the heavier edge proggy stuff like the track Tempest from the last CD. I like all their stuff, but I really freak on their stuff with more chunk. Unfortunately, this one seemed quite light after the int...

Re: SUBSIGNAL / La Muerta ..... first thoughts.

It being "light" is actually an encouragement for me. There's plenty of dark and heavy bands around that I can listen to when I want. Bands with such a sharp melodic sense like Subsignal (or Seventh Wonder, etc) and such strong vocal talent deserve as much appreciation as they can get. **...

Re: Dokken: After "Live 1981" recorded in 1983 we now get "Return To The East Live" recorded more than the half in the U

For me, Dokken was Lynch all the way. Never listened to anything past Back for the Attack (their best, IMO). Don's voice blended in with all those California hair metal bands, so he was passable in the 80s, but unremarkable for today. Lynch, however, has an immediately recognizable style and sound....

Couple rotations through.... Fantastic disc! Definitely the best of the Manzi era. "Unquiet" was a good disc, but felt like it was recovering from "Seven Degrees", which came off as flat out lazy. This album feels like they are fully back in the groove. I will point out, though,...
