Re: What are you listening to right now?
Anette Olzon / RAPTURE -- I didn't ask anyone about this disc before buying, as I normally buy her solo discs blind ..... her first couple of solo discs are excellent, and while I'm slightly warm to her Dark Element material, I have always loved her solo stuff much more ..... except for this disc. :...

Re: Vanden Plas - The Empyrean Equation of the Long Lost Things
I'm through the album once now, and I'm sorry (but probably not surprisingly) to say that it does little for me. I have always appreciated the band for what they do - I've seen them live a few times, and I enjoy listening to especially their earlier albums like "The God Thing", "Christ O" and "Colo...

Re: Vanden Plas - The Empyrean Equation of the Long Lost Things
This just gets better with each listen ..... such an amazing feat for this band after all these years....... and like Sir Exar said, Andy should be an example to all of these young singers on how to preserve your voice after 30+ years of doing this ..... to hear him hit these high notes as if it was...

Vanden Plas - The Empyrean Equation of the Long Lost Things
Just got my copy fresh from The Lasers Edge and I had no doubt in my mind that this would be another killer Vanden Plas disc .... and it is. I am not sure where to begin except that this band is one of the few left in the Prog Metal world that I will buy blind and will continue to do so until they o...

SETYØURSAILS - Bad Blood Melodic metalcore with female vocals. Spiritbox meets Evanescence? It's very melodic and quite cheesy, but some of the songs are quite killer, especially "Eternally" and "Bad Company". nrx0vsHFGg4 EIDOLA - Eviscerate I've only gone through it once so far, but I was quite di...

VENUES - Transience File this under "music that LarryD will hate"! It's a melodic metalcore band (think Annisokay) leaning heavily into that modern pop-metal sound that we know from later-day Within Temptation. I'm thoroughly enjoying this, and I find their sense of melody writing super interesting...

Three emotional discs I haven't played in awhile.....
Given the current mood lately, I reached for some emotional music to coincide with it ...... I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, but I was looking to get some goosebumps out of it and here is what happened ...... 1) PAIN OF SALVATION / The Perfect Element - Part 1 I remember way back when .....

Re: Knowing an Album
The difference is how much of our musical appreciation capacity are we currently using. When my two fav albums ever, DT Images and Words and FW- APSOG, were released I'd only really started dabbling into the prog world and didn't have much to compare or contrast. My mind, heart and soul wasn't fill...

Prospekt - The Illuminated Sky, 2017. A fine album released by Sensory, so maybe you all already know it? :) Great melodic technical progressive metal, reminds of early Circus Maximus and Symphony X. Can't remember if I've listened to it since it came out, but it was pretty OK. The debut EP and fir...

The only two Crimson Glory's that I can get into is Transcendence and the self-titled one before. Strange and Beautiful was just too much of a departure for me to enjoy. DRACONIAN - Under a Godless Veil I still think it's a crying shame that Heike left the band, and while the albums with Lisa were good, I doubt that Draconian will ever again make anything as powerful as this one ("Under a Godless Veil") or "Sovran". Heike's voice is a one-of-a-kind, whereas Lisa is...
