RW has a pleasant enough voice, but this really isn't suited to heavy music.

Ninth album from Finnish melodic death metal veterans.
Top class songs and great sounding mix and mastered so you can actually hear all the instruments.

For me, today has 4 big releases that I've really been looking forward to: Shores of Null - The Loss of Beauty Ne Obliviscaris - Exul Hanging Garden - The Garden Marianas Rest - Auer The only one I've listened to so far (twice) is "Auer" which is kicking my butt ... fantastic stuff. Doom-death/occa...

Re: What's the next item in this list? (AKA "What should I listen to next?")
Your really limiting yourself by not including music with harsh vocals. Two of my all time favourite bands are incredible epic progressive/black/death/pagan/folk metal sung in their native tongue. They (Moonsorrow and Finsterforst) are far more musically adventurous than 99.9% of the so called 'prog...

Re: Shadow Gallery - Carved in stone 2LP Vinyl release coming
I was referring to Shadow Gallery, I have zero interest in the other band... You can 'remaster' Tyranny yourself, all you are doing is passing the stereo mix though an audio program such as Audacity. How do you think labels like Rock Candy, who don't have access (in most instances) to any kind of ma...

Re: Shadow Gallery - Carved in stone 2LP Vinyl release coming
None of those albums need a remix, or remastering they still sound great.
The vinyl is not going to sound any better than the CD, unless it's 'remastered for vinyl', which is highly unlikely.
So I really don't see the point of this release, just a 'cash grab' from the re-issue label.

Re: THRESHOLD / Dividing Lines ......
You nailed it again, just got through my third play and it's amazing. Sound wise it blows Legends right out of the water, I can hear the drums and bass clearly. It's classic Threshold sounding, ticks all the boxes and then some more. The melodies, songs and production, with Glynn in particular may h...

Re: ARENA / The Theory of Molecular Inheritance ......
Totally off topic, I am very happy to report that the new Threshold sounds 100% better than their last one.
The mastering on 'Legends of The Shire' made it sound like a 192kbps MP3 to my ears, while 'Dividing Lines' sounds much more dynamic.

Re: ARENA / The Theory of Molecular Inheritance ......
Larry hit the nail on the head for me, but it's not the production, it the mastering of the album. As he stated it's the compression used by nearly all metal mastering engineers, it has no dynamics. While it's not as bad here as the previous Arena album, 'Double Vision' it's noticeable enough and de...

New album from the Swedish melodic death metal progsters.
Yes I said prog, they are superb MDM, but also throwing in some prog bits, but always keeping things fresh and interesting.

This is - unfortunately - a huge let down for me. I don’t really know why, because “Tiara” wasn’t a very good disc at all, and of the two singles released for this new one, only “Warriors” appealed to my tastes. I guess I should have expected this one to be along those lines as well. I’ve been thro...

Listened to it for the first time today, wow love the aggression mixed with the melody.
The trademark ZH chuga-widdly-diddly is still evident and feels like they've never been away.
But the highlight for me is the vocals, Erik is still firing on all cylinders sounding amazing as ever.
