Re: New Riverside in September....

New song 'Vale Of Tears' is up on Spotify today.
It's dark and heavy, exactly was I was expecting after the last album.
Also very proggy too.

Can't wait for the album in 2 months.

Oh I checked it out, great song, has that trademark Tipton brothers sound.
Went to pre-order the CD and FMS the shipping to Australia is more than the cost of the disc

Re: The post about re-masters ....... good or bad ?

I used to buy remasters and ditch the original pressing. These days I always keep the original CD, as in many cases the remaster can be worse sounding. The woefully bad one is Rush 'Hemispheres' the remastered CD sounds terrible, completely crushed with compression and no dynamic's at all. That said...

I have all three Shadowland albums and I do prefer the last one, Mad As A Hatter.
You should also check out another Clive Nolan band, Strangers On A Train, with female vocals, both albums are excellent.

Re: Amorphis - Queen of Time

I can offer one reason for Amorphis going to the next level with the last two albums. Jens Bogren has guided and assisted the band with the song arrangements. I think he is a major factor, he has also pushed the band to their peak. Yeah I can't think of many other bands this far into there career de...

Too early to tell how QoT measures up against the back catalogue, but definitely one of their best.

Re: Amorphis - Queen of Time

This album is close to blowing my mind. Amorphis 13th album and this is as good as they have ever done if not better. Easily their most progressive and adventurous album to date, but also the most growls since their early full on death metal era. Producer Jens Bogren has really pushed them to the ne...

Larry you should be asking the promoter of the sole Canadian gig this.
Could be that it's not economical to pay for visa's flights etc to play for a few hundred people in the USA?

Re: ARENA / Double Vision ..... first thoughts.

I agree with Claus here, all 4 singer that Arena have had, all sound pretty much the same to me.
The biggest difference in the change of sound was the arrival of John Mitchell.
He brought a far more metallic sound to the band.
While Keith More was more rock player on the first two albums.

I was in my local metal record store a couple of weeks back and this 'live' album was playing.
Don's voice totally ruined it for me, even though he apparently re-did nearly all the vocals in the studio.
Really he dosen't and never had the pipes to act like a total dick and have a massive ego.

While I love Towers, I do refer the debut for one reason, it has keyboards and hence more atmosphere.
Towers sounds very cold and dark, while ZH/Meta is a little more brighter.

Rage For Order is/was far more progressive than Mindcrime and anything else in the QR catalogue. DPP was already written and demo'd with Marco's vox even before Anette was chosen. I don't think it's a pop album by any means.
The songs are still very much SW, but he wrote and played on the album with a Telecaster and pretty much no distortion.
It's that guitar sound that points to that pop sound, but the songs themselves still have many prog elements .
