Re: New Riverside in September....

What ever they do I reckon it will be good.
They seem to have a knack for doing different things and pulling it off.
I hated LFatTM when I first heard it but it really grew on me.

Re: Kaiser’s Bart - Meister5tuck

I listen to many bands that sing/growl in their native non-english tongue.
Musically this is great, but vocally and lyrically not working at all for me.

Re: Zero Hour - The Towers of Avarice

While I love Towers, I do refer the debut for one reason, it has keyboards and hence more atmosphere.
Towers sounds very cold and dark, while ZH/Meta is a little more brighter.

BTW this new SW song was recorded during the TTB sessions but obviously did not fit in with the rest of the songs.
It was released on RSD 2018 on 12" vinyl only.

Re: New Arena - Double Vision

Was going to pre-order direct from the band, until I saw the price was more than double the price of a locally release CD. With shipping to AU, $43.20. where a local disc is $19.99. I know the band has to survive and that they are only a part time band these days, still at this price it's more than ...

Re: ARENA / The Visitor - remastered.......WOW !!!!!

Just heard the new 2 min trailer for the new album, it's on the band's official FB page.
All I can say is wow, a glorious return to the prog heavy, keyboard ladened sounds of classic Arena.

Re: ARENA / The Visitor - remastered.......WOW !!!!!

I was looking at getting this direct from the band, but prices are pretty steep to say the least.

Anyhow, new album is out in a few weeks, just got Unquiet Sky, and it's better than expected.

Re: New Kamelot single

It's just another example of a record label being totally out of touch and shooting themselves in the foot. They seem to forget that the average online reviewer/journalist is unpaid, and promoting their artists for free. Yet they continue to squeeze them and offer them less and less incentive to hav...

Re: 1988: Metal bands starting to add a progressive element to their music...

Rage For Order is/was far more progressive than Mindcrime and anything else in the QR catalogue. Yet OM always seems to be referred to a as prog metal masterpiece, without having anything really prog/complex about it. Also agree with Chris about PoM, besides the Dune song, listen to Where Eagles Dar...

Re: Best of 2017 - Mandatory Posting

DPP was already written and demo'd with Marco's vox even before Anette was chosen. Both her NW albums were pretty good, it's live where she was found wanting, with the old Tarja era material really not suited to her range. It was almost as if Tuomas deliberately went for a direct opposite to Tarja s...

Re: TARJA to release a Christmas disc ..............

Played this all weekend in the car, Tarja is back to top form after the very disappointing 2 releases from last year.
This material suits her voice perfectly, slowed right down so she can get every last drop of emotion from her voice.

I actually picked this up the same time as The Dark Element CD, which is so good, I haven't bothered with this one yet.
Will check it out over the weekend.

Re: The Dark Element (Anette Olzen and Jani Liimatainen)

I've heard this a few times now and this is a seriously good record. It's obvious that Jani put a hell of a lot of effort into the songwriting and arrangements. Anette has done some amazing vocals and the rhythm section is very solid. My fave songs, hard to pick but 'Dead To Me' just grabs me, it's ...

The Dark Element (Anette Olzen and Jani Liimatainen)

I know there are some Nightwish and Sonata Arctica fans here and we have Anette teaming up with Jani for a killer album released in Europe 10th November 2017. The band's line up is; Anette Olzon - Lead Vocals (ex Nightwish and Alyson Avenue) Jani Liimatainen - Guitars, Keyboards, Programming (Ex Son...

Re: David Gilmour releases another concert......

I bought the deluxe edition box, 2 BR and 2 CD.
Excellent so far the bonus stuff is great, specially the BBC Wider Horizons documentary that I've watched on YT a couple of times.
$26 for a BR still very cheap compared to AU prices.

Re: Steven Wilson - To The Bone

I don't think it's a pop album by any means.
The songs are still very much SW, but he wrote and played on the album with a Telecaster and pretty much no distortion.
It's that guitar sound that points to that pop sound, but the songs themselves still have many prog elements .

To my knowledge, Art of Loss did get released in Japan. I took special efforts with the track listing for that release. I did a search and couldn't find an existing thread for OO. German power metal band, Gunman is their fifth album out this week in Europe. With a loose concept about the Wild West. Three video's are from the above mentioned album. Gunman https://youtu.be/JPm46Qgyn24 Fields Of Sorrow https://youtu.be/...

I never get tired of RFO. Back in the day it sounding amazing and very futuristic and it still does today. Re: Anathema-The Optimist....

I was very underwhelmed after one complete listen.
It sounds very disjointed to me, doesn't flow at all well, too much Lee lead vocals, too much repetitiveness (lyrics and same melody) on some songs.
Then the actual recording sounds like a different studio/producer on a few songs.
Very disappointing.
