Re: What are you listening to right now?

Galderia - Endless Horizon These guys sound Italian, but according to Metal Archives they're from France. They play very infectious, happy anthemic power metal a'la Lost Horizon. The first band I've heard in many, many years that takes me all the way back to the innocent early years when I was just ...

I love the album and it's going to be very high on my year-faves list. I also liked the last one about the same amount though.

The only reason I don't is that I think finding buyers would be too much work compared to the money I could get for them.

2. Dimmu Borgir - Stormblast (original recording, NOT the re-recording) I like every album on this list to at least some amount. One odd opinion I have is that I have warmed up to the Stormblast remake over the years. When it came out I wanted nothing to do with it. Wouldn't touch it with a ten foo...

I love 90% of everything mentioned in this thread so far. I personally hold one album above the rest which is Solstice "New Dark Age". In second place would be While Heaven Wept "Vast Oceans Lachrymose". Behind those two in the "pack" would be stuff by Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Place of Skulls ...

Re: A-Z. New supergroup

I kept my expectations moderate. I don't think Ray has the right voice for "hard" rock. I really like some of Zonder's stuff post-Fates like Slavior and Speaking to Stones, but on the other hand, At War With Self was a total snoozefest. So I tried to keep in mind that this could very well be a dud. ...

Re: Here is some music I've gotten lately.....

Neal's Life & Times solo album from 2018 is very charming and IMO has held up over a few years of going back to it. The album has a full band of studio musicians who I believe are unique to that album (i.e. they were hired session players for that one). I saw him touring to support it, which was jus...

Not to be hyperbolic but Tiara is my favorite album of the decade 2011-2020.

I don't expect or need Testament to even approach Tiara. In order to be a good - even great - album for me, it only has to be half as good or so as Tiara was.

Re: New stuff Friday ...

New Hammerfall might be the closest they've ever come to the Glory to the Brave sound. It even sounds closer to GttB than Legacy of Kings did. I assume they intentionally tried to get as close to that sound as possible. So it's enjoyable in the same way, but, of course it has nowhere near the same i...

I have "Eternity" on CD and I still spin it every now and then - maybe once every other year. It's overly long for a one-sitting listen, but it's not without its youthful charm. Plus they got in early on having a Wheel of Time themed song.

My best SG memory is always going to be getting to see their debut live show in Tannersville PA, with Suspyre opening. Nightwish video with Anette?

Because Nightwish were one of the first power metal bands I heard (which is probably a common thing), I had an outsized love for them in the early 2000s. That fell off as time went on and the number of bands I was paying attention to at the same time exploded, but they still occupy a treasured place...

To echo Tom's point....I'll never stop regretting the absence of Zonder. But of the Bobby-era albums, this is the one in which he seems to be making the most effort to show a degree of musical personality the way Zonder did.

IMO Pain of Salvation albums didn't start sounding great until BE. Entropia & the original Remedy Lane were the comparative best of the first four, but I welcome remasters of any and all of them. I'll be buying this with bells on.

Re: Does anyone care about Metallica anymore ? New concert album...

I like a lot of Metallica albums, even ReLoad, but every recording of them live that I've heard makes it seem like they really suck live. James's voice never gels with the music the way it does on a professional album mix, and he always sounds like he's on the verge of being out of breath. For that ...
