Arch/Matheos - New Album coming in 2019

Can't fucking wait for this! Sympathetic Resonance is 1 of the best prog metal albums of the last 10 years. And take a look at the GUEST LIST: it's like a Fates Warning-fan's dream mix of musicians. https://www.facebook.com/metalbladerecords/photos/a.10150278471294886/10156650103474886/?type=3&t...

Re: The Forgotten Heroes of Prog Metal Thread

Sorry, but I always found Superior's greatest record to be Younique. I love the various influences they brought in. Behind is still great, and even though I found the concept a bit melodramatic, I still enjoy a lot of Ultima Ratio. I wrote something in my blog about Superior about 10 years ago, whic...

How's this one? Stylistically is it comparable to Saigon Kick?

VENNART (Mike Vennart, ex-Oceansize)

Oceansize fans? VENNART put out a pretty sweet debut album in 2015 titled The Demon Joke. The follow-up is coming soon per there have already been many comments about hearing it already. http://www.vennart.com/ There's already a new song available there, "Donkey Kong," when signing up/ re-...

Re: The Sea Within - Prog Rock Supergroup .....

that sounds potentially good as an album that is predictably prog, likely would end up rather run-of-the-mill.

Something more straight forward, from these guys, and hopefully emphasizes melodies, may end up coming out well.

Re: LaBrie cancels PPUSA performance

Dream Theater:

-need to demo
-need to play new songs live before they record them
-need an outside producer

none of these things seem to ever happen anymore, and have very little chance of happening again as long as the band members are happy with the way they are doing things.

Re: Zero Hour - The Towers of Avarice

I recall Paul Cashman described his impression to me of ZH (on their debut album) as some kind of "Prog Metal Hanson."

but he also said basically how could anyone not like them (as people and their music), saying that would be like someone saying they don't like puppies, lol.

Re: Zero Hour - The Towers of Avarice

yeah, it's one of my favorites. It stands out not only among the rest of their catalog, but a lot of the progressive and technical metal, really in history. For some reason, Erick Rosvold made a really big difference for them, and on that record. I enjoyed the Cynthesis stuff too, although the produ...

yeah I just saw Thank You Scientist last month with Protest the Hero and Closure in Moscow . Great musicians, but I'm not sure if I ever will fully get into the highly similar Claudio Sanchez-vocals. @introclaus, yeah those are some of the more popular names. I get the sense with prog/prog metal fan...

Re: Yes - this board is now 14 years old .......

I can't claim to have even read/lurked for nearly that long, but I used to on the ProgPowerUSA UM board. I likely will be checking this place out now more, although admittedly, my taste in Prog Metal really has changed or dwindled for well over a decade. I'm kind of in no-man's land, for whatever re...

wait and listen with somewhat mild expectations. The sample sounds a little heavier than I pictured for "Art Rock."

Gildenlow + Brislin are the curiosity here. Tom Brislin's 1 solo record I checked out a few months ago and enjoyed it more than I expected.

Re: Shadow Gallery / Tyranny - the best ever.

I enjoy it, but I can't to say it's better than Carved in Stone nor Room V. I kind of see those 3 about equal. Enjoy the LaBrie and DC Cooper appearances. The story almost reminds me of The Matrix or Tron or something. And as odd as it is to say, despite the drum machine, I still find the S/T debut ...

yeah, this should be the 1st thing from a forthcoming album soon as the band got back together, wrote and recorded an album within the last year per their pics and updates on Facebook. Discovery and Grave New World are 2 of my favorite record ever, so I'm naturally incredibly excited for this, even ...

Re: 1988: More metal bands starting to add a progressive element to their music... (other albums of the 80s also accepte

I posted an albums release date Calendar about 1988 a few months ago here . Death - Leprosy it may not be "progressive" but certainly was technical. Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys II more Power Metal of course, but it shares some qualities certainly was an influence on a lot later pr...
