Re: Anathema-The Optimist....

Fair enough. :) I thought their nu/groove style had already started to come in by Clayman, though. Their peak for me will always be Subterranean/Jester Race/Whoracle... and what a peak that was...

Re: Queensryche / Rage for Order re-master........

***Gonna Get Close To You is way out of place to me ......always was. It killed the momentum of the "sci-fi" songs and feel of the disc...... I'm not sure why they opted to do this song instead of writing another killer song, but this song is the only song to me that is out of place ........

Re: Queensryche / Rage for Order re-master........

RFO was a grower for me back in the day. At one time my fave QR release was their debut EP, followed by Mindcrime and then at some distance by Empire. I even traded it away. Maybe 15 years ago I got back into it. All-time classic for sure, though I'd still put Mindcrime above it.

Re: I "might" have to go digital soon .... need some ideas.

You don't have to go "full digital"; you can go a bit more digital on the margin. That's what I've done. For albums that I'm interested in hearing but probably won't listen to often, I use a streaming service (used to use Rhapsody/Napster, now Amazon). The advantage of using a streaming se...

If you enjoy the lighter side of VP's work (e.g., "Crown of Thorns"), you should like this as well.

Abydos - a retrospective appreciation

I hope you'll indulge me if I wax appreciative for a bit over an album that's about 13 years old now and has stuck with me over the years. The album is Abydos, _The Little Boy's Heavy Mental Shadow Opera About the Inhabitants of His Diary_. It was a side project of Vanden Plas vocalist Andy Kuntz, a...

Re: North American Anathema tour in august

Looks as if they are playing a better venue in Boston than they did the last time they were here. Saw them on the tour with Alcest, and the sound quality in the basement they played was horrid. But the place they're playing this time is a nice theater-like venue, saw King's X there not long ago.

Re: Voïvod Announce Deluxe Reissues Of Early Albums

Streaming KT right now and digging it. May end up getting on CD. Those who insist on Kamelotesque production values will dislike it, and it's quite thrashy, but it already has the pleasurable dissonance of their later work - definitely proggy in parts. Those who like the chromatic scale (cf. late-pe...

Dimension Hatross is awesome; Nothingface is also worthy. I need to listen to Killing Technology - never have!

Re: Happy Anniversary to us !!!! Well, sort of ......

Happy anniversary to all! Glad to see Facebook hasn't managed to kill off this web forum the way it has so many others. Just rejoined recently, hadn't participated since this was at the Mindcage site, but I participated regularly then. Never been to Progpower - never had the available cash, and then...

Re: Some discs from the past - the test of time ?

Have the Freedom Call but it's been years since I've listened. Fills a certain happy-metal niche that I rarely want to explore, but just in case... Memory Garden's later albums are better than Tides IMO. Stuff like Verdict of Posterity and Mirage stand the test of time. I see on metal-archives.com t...

KING CRIMSON - Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind

Finally picked this up the other day. It's a triple live album with a Blu-ray video. I don't have a Blu-ray player so can't watch that. I can count the number of live albums I own on two hands, but what drove me to purchase this was (1) this outstanding rendition of "Starless" - https://ww...

Mac was always my favorite Threshold vocalist, but I admit to being a little stoked at this news. Morgan was very good on Psychedelicatessen, although it is far from my favorite Threshold album.

Re: New Anathema news

Definitely a no-look purchase, though in my view the quality of the last album was a little below that of the previous two. They've been mining that WHBWH sound for a bit, which is great, but they'll want to add some new elements to avoid a rut. Eager to hear what the new album is like.

Re: Fans of Green Carnation--New In the Woods

I'm thrilled to see there's a new In the Woods... album. Didn't find out about it until today, about six months after release! Listening now on streaming. Sounds way more black metal than their last two studio albums (_Omnio_ is my favorite), but not bad.

Thanks for trying, Larry. Unfortunately, neither the email address you sent nor various permutations of it worked, and he's not listed on the qub.ac.uk website. He really seems to have gone completely incognito.

Glad Facebook hasn't killed off this forum! It's probably been 15 years, maybe more, since I've been on PM. I used to post as "Curumbor Elendil" and ran a single-song-MP3 website called bestofmetal.net (shut down when the copyright lawyers came after it). Looking forward to participating a...
