Re: What are you listening to right now?

Speaking of Thank You Scientist, it really sucks to hear the vocalist threw in the towel. He is very unique and fit that music like a glove. Don’t know if that means no more music from them or not. Guitarist is the genius behind the music so let’s hope they continue with some music, even an all inst...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Kristoffer Gildenlow: Empty Awesome laid back light prog with killer guitar solos. Read where his other solo records were even lighter, more ambient and what not. I did not take a shot at any before this, but seeing how great this one is I might take a chance. Definitely for the lighter mood times. ...

Re: New stuff Friday ...

The year has just begun and we already get served with a heavy dose of musical perfection. This Caligula’s Horse album hits so hard I can’t think of anything that will challenge this throughout the year. I dove into this with headphones and just sat there shaking my head as I absorbed the greatness ...

Re: My Top 100 of 2023

Claus. Great write up! It still boggles my mind how you even accomplish this. Just to get 100 you have to average 2 discs a week, and probably way more when you consider the ones that didn’t make the list. And then to be able to spend enough time to absorb the music and come up with a ranking… you m...

I’ll leave the long descriptions to the experts.🤘🥳 Here is my top 10. Ring of Gyges: Metamorphosis…. Love the emotion and the way this one builds. Can’t understand this not getting more love!! Southern Empire: Another World. … Just discovered this band and they hit all the right spots. New vocalist ...

Anyone else enjoying this one? It took me a bit but now I’m hooked. Wasn’t sure about the vocals at first but I’m digging this whole thing now. Plus I have to mention Eric Gillette’s playing on this is mind blowing. Just listen to the guitar solo on the tune Mothallah. The phrasing, timing, feel….in...

Southern Empire. I can’t believe I haven’t heard of these guys before I read about the new album. I have had all 3 studio discs in constant rotation. Another great reason I lurk here. Australia sure kicks out some great bands. Another quick comment, Cam Blokland is a monster guitarist with a great v...

Is no one else digging this around here? The silence is looming large around here…
My favorite listen so far this year. As I’ve stated earlier, a blend of Wolverine, Anubis, and Haken make up their sound and thus an incredible concept disc. Hard not to be moved by this one.

Ring of Gyges: Metamorphosis/ Another gem

Ok. Great music has been assaulting these ears. Avkrvst, the new Anubis Gate, and Retrospective. Also Godsticks new one. But damn if I haven’t found one that may trump those above. Ring of Gyges Metamorphosis. Think of a mix of Wolverine, a little Haken and the band Anubis. At least that is what I t...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

RE: Avkrvst. Yes, there are a couple of growl moments. 30 seconds in one tune and 24 seconds in the other. I don’t care for growling style vocals but with this album they don’t last long enough to annoy me. Glad you like it Larry, this is indeed an awesome “disc”. As far as PT, and you not being a f...

Some other discs that have been occupying lots of my time. Anubis Gate: Interference. Love this band and this one I find myself liking more and more with each listen. Ray Alder: II. Took a bit but this one is growing on me big time. Rays vocals are like a tonic. Can’t see how anyone could not like t...

Avkrvst: The Approbation

Porcupine Tree fans should eat this one up. For my ears this is very good. Curious to know if anyone else has given this a go.

Wow, how you compile these lists is pretty incredible. Tad Morose, the last 4 albums on shuffle. Ronny Hemlin to me is a metal vocal god. The albums are, (from first Ronnie Hemlin to the newest) Revenant, St. Demonius, Chapter X, and March of the Obsequious. I would say if I had to pick one it would be Chapter X. I’ve always dug Tad Morose but Hemlin ra...

I just picked it up myself. I have their ep from a while back and enjoyed it quite much. The vocalist has a little Andy Kuntz in his delivery and tone. At least on the ep. I’ll be listening to the new one on repeat today while locating cables!!! Nothing like rocking out while working.

Seeing this post reminded me to watch the show again. Well I watched disc one and boy howdy it is mind blowingly good. Eric Gillette is flawless on voice and guitar. Wanted to chime in on this. I’ve had this since it’s release and continue to spin it up from time to time. The only knock I have is in the vocal department.
