Re: Kingcrow - The Persistence

I hate to be the dissenter, but the new song really didn't do much for me. It's the kind of prog metal that's very pretty to listen to, but I didn't hear anything sharp or hooky enough to remember.

Re: New Riverside in September....

it was the same exact riff played over and over again at different speeds........nothing changed thru the entire song except the tempo - once. .......... Maybe that's what makes it progressive? Everyone expects a song to have multiple parts, to build and flow, to be interesting and entertaining, so...

I'll admit, I haven't actually heard any of your top three albums yet. There's been so much to get through, and prog metal has been getting shunted to the back of the line a lot of the time. ***Well, you're not a prog dude, so it makes sense....... but, you should give Ostura a listen. https://incura.bandcamp.com/album/incura-ii Incura. Someone in the Facebook group mentioned this band. Super theatrical latter day Savatage style rockers. Really excellent. I loved their first album. It was theatrical, cheesy as all hell, and one of the most ludicrously catchy records of that year....

I really am curious sometime as to how you differentiate a 9.75 rating from a 9.8...... :) That's one of the reasons I don't use grades or star ratings. I got sick and tired of having to keep track of quarter stars, and essentially grade everything versus the first albums of a given year. It's so m...

You'd be already tired with just one album every 2 years cause you don't really enjoy his vocals to start with so... I like him fine. I've heard the album, and I find it a bit odd. It's actually softer and slower than I was expecting, and with far more concise songs than these guys are used to. If anything, it actually reminds me of the second Flying Colors album, where it's almost a bunch of prog guys doing 'conventional' songs. ...

Re: The post about re-masters ....... good or bad ?

My take is that re-mastering is largely a sham. There's only so much you can do by pushing the volume a bit louder, or running a filter to boost a few frequencies. They might sound better in the sense they are louder or shinier like a new album, but that's usually at the expense of the original dyna...

It's pretty good, but I couldn't make it through the whole record more than once. All I could think about was just how damn loud the thing was, with absolutely no room to breathe. Unless there was something off with the promo that got sent out, it's a victim of the Loudness War.

It's a complete pile of trash. No, because I don't feel like they are. Candlemass, at least from everything I've heard, is not nearly as detailed, lush, or melodic as Sorcerer is here.
