Really?

It sounds painfully generic, and paint-by-numbers DT to me, and I'm the guy who put ADTOE #1 that year.

I would rather not use headphones, whenever possible. Even with a good set, the sound isn't quite right when it feels like it's already inside your head. Having it in the air makes it sound bigger, at least to me.

18. Temperance - Of Jupiters And Moons Very catchy symphonic(?) metal. The multiple singer gimmick works well. Sort of a not-quite-as-good The Dark Element. I need to try more of this band's material..... I listened to a couple of songs a few months back and really enjoyed it, but also stumbled on ...

You've all been waiting for that one time of the year I make it easiest for you to laugh at my opinions, so here it is. And in fact, this year there were enough albums I liked a lot that I'm going to rank twenty of them, rather than just ten. Lucky you, eh? But first, let me say the worst albums of ...

I wasn't expecting it yet, but I got to hear the album today. Given my tastes, you can all take this with a grain of salt. For me, someone who most enjoys "Torn", "The Atlantic" is easily the best of these last three albums. It's still totally Evergrey, but this record feels a bi...

I enjoy Nos' writing and his reviews. He sticks to his guns and is brutally honest in what he feels. You just have to keep his tastes in perspective. I pay attention when he critiques pop and melodic rock. That's his wheelhouse and he is spot on. However, with prog and power, he's basically the ant...

The Rainbow records are great, but my favorite from the 70s is "Bat Out Of Hell", no doubt. I'm still the wacky guy who likes the sequel more (what can I say - it was the first album I loved growing up), but Steinman for the win. I an actually also in that “wacky guy” camp then ... oh, an...

That song was exactly what I don't like about quite a bit of prog metal. It starts out good, and the hints of death metal in the riffing is interesting, but that chorus. Ugh. It's slow, and lazy, and the melody is kind of an amorphis blob of crooning that doesn't seem to go anywhere. It's so unmemo...

I have my #1 settled, and is has been for a while.Actually, I think nine of my top ten is set by now. Most of my favorite stuff wasn't metal yet again this year, and certainly wasn't prog metal.

I did give Kingcrow a chance, but I don't connect with it at all. I guess I'm more of a rocker at heart.

I adored the "Dracula" record, and have been worried about this since the moment it was announced. Sorry, but Nils is not sinister sounding enough to play the part of Vlad The Impaler. The song is pretty good, but Nils lacks all the gravitas that Jorn had. They needed to get Jorn on board ...
