I'm not impressed by any of the songs they've put out, nor was I be the first two records with Todd. They're just so average.

just like good ol’ Neal Morse feels his über long double disc is just what the world wanted. I love Neal, but yeah, these double discs are a chore to sit through. The new one isn't great, but "Similitude" was, and I haven't listened to it in full since it came out, because there's no chan...

Re: another new Darkwater song.... A New Beginning

It's funny to see discussions about a Prog Metal release being to long :? . Typically when a band is prog - songs are longer because they do not follow the standard song formula. There's a difference between having long songs and having long albums. "2112" has a 20 minute song, but the re...

Re: Dream Theater - Distance Over Time

I think the talk about this one will be split, like usual. When the self-titled came out, it was billed as being the essence of Dream Theater. I didn't think it was, but that's the feeling I get from this new one. If you think about the elements that make up their sound, that's what they're deliveri...

Re: What's Your Favourite Redemption Album?

My favorite has been "The Origins Of Ruin" since I first heard it, and it isn't just because "Memory" is my favorite of the band's songs. For me, I find it the most accessible and sticky of their albums. "The Art Of Loss" would be next on those counts, so it's not too f...

Within Temptation - Resist

This one is going to cause a stir among their fans. This record is a lot like a darker, slowed down Amaranthe. I think quite a few fans are going to absolutely hate the shift, but I find myself loving what I'm hearing. It's far more pop than it is metal, but that works for me. I didn't care for the ...

Re: Dream Theater - "Distance Over Time" Album Teaser

This second song is definitely better than the first. The solo section, in particular, is very nice. But it seems no matter what they do, they can't figure out how to make James sound good. Petrucci thinks himself a producer, but the records he's overseen for the band never actually *sound* great, v...

42. Ghost - Prequelle On “Prequelle” the music has gotten another notch into the commercial direction, and the blatant early 70’s Blue Oyster Cult rip-offs that dominated the first few albums have been replaced by a more original song writing, that in my opinion leans more on the Steinman/Meat Loaf...

Haken / Vector - I've never gotten the appeal of Haken. Something about them always comes off as if they're trying too hard, or they're playing something that isn't them.
