Re: Sons Of Apollo (Portnoy's New Band)

Got mine in today thanks to lightning Ken and co.

Just finished the 11:11 opening track and it was good. It's not as good as their ludicrous hype, but it is solid so far. This is in no way revolutionary...if anyone had those kinds of thoughts.

Re: A taste of the new Kingcrow - The Persistence

Hell yeah! I started spinning Kingcrow again late last week and was hooked for most of a week solid. At 0:34 is some of that trademark funkiness that I love so much.

Can't wait for this one.

Re: Anubis Gate - Covered in Black (September 1, 2017)

Haven't seen much feedback on the new Anubis Gate once the full disc became available. Am I the only one NOT impressed? The last couple of songs were really good, but the rest of the album did not do anything for me on first listen. The first track had too much of a modern electronica sound to it, ...

After 18 years or so I am finally making the trek to Atlanta. I'll finally get to meet up with you guys or most anyway. Thats at least half of why Im coming. Glass Mind - Dodecaedro

This one's for those of us who like our metal with splashes of jazz (and almost every other influence) and aren't afraid of instrumental work. Courtesy of lmjh.

I was 3 minutes into the first track when I was already ready to buy.

I don't remember there being a non-iTunes version of this before, huzzah for new options. But yeah, this is such great stuff. I love hearing Victor outside of his usual context. I will relish the full album when it comes out.

I'm not very familiar with this band, but this one is pretty interesting. A lot of atmosphere with those heavier moments kicking in. I know they are on tour right now with Between the Buried and Me. 4 bands on the bill, and I don't need to see Colors again, but it is a Saturday night in New Orleans...

Re: The Contortionist - Clairvoyant

Language was definitely the more immediate album for me as well. It was more energetic, which I liked. But there's a lot of haunting beauty on this disc that would be eating my ears up a lot more if I weren't so hooked on the new Caligula's Horse. Not sure if they quite fit into PP, but if they were...

The Contortionist - Clairvoyant

I know that this band has been outside of the norm for this crowd, but this album should be right up quite a few of your alleys. Hugely emotive, technical, deep and layered, ambient, just beautiful and touching stuff while still showcasing lots of chops. Two excellent samples of the album (with vide...

Does anyone know if their first album is available? I had it up on BC some time back and after a few listens I was going to buy, but when I refreshed it was gone. I'm assuming this is related to the new distro deal.

I can appreciate the purist's perspective. Ronnie Platt is the vocalist I believe, and he did very well. Not Walsh, but still very good. I'll look into that Blu-Ray.

They also metal'd up the guitar tones a bit, which was a perfect thing for me :D
