Polyphia - New Levels New Devils

So taking into account a somewhat refreshed distinction between "P" and "p" progressive...here's one that's absolutely in the latter. The new Polyphia is arguably more groove jazz than metal, but damn is it a stellar slab of music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_gkpYORQLU http...

Re: New Seventh Wonder tune

I don't mind being the purveyor of exquisite hot takes, so I don't have that problem :D I will, however, generally not be a bastard if I'm pretty sure the band might read it. LOL :) There's a good chance the band will read it, as they do frequent this forum from time to time. That said, the album i...

Re: New Seventh Wonder tune

I'm going to be the contrarian here. This album is a chore. This is just capital p Progressive Metal that resembles itself from 8 years ago near perfectly. Nothing's changed (except the bass disappeared), nothing new on offer except new cheesy lyrics. It's...comfort food metal just like the new Kame...

Re: New Seventh Wonder tune

This mix on this album is pure bullshit. The lack of bass is immediately noticeable. It sounds so damned flat. Where's my fat bottomed Seventh Wonder, damnit?

Same. It took me a while to really get into it, but now I love it. So even though my initial impression of this one isn't amazing, I'm still giving it time.

It's a bit too laid back for my personal taste, but a good album nonetheless.

I want to like this, but there's just no fire there for me. It's not bad by any means, but it's nothing like the first 4 albums, which is what I'm really craving from Riverside.

Re: Shattered Skies - Muted Neon

Super excited for this! Though, I gotta say it's a shame that album cover has all those sick colors and the shirt is just black and white :P I'm still considering a shirt as I do love these folks. I'm not sure I could wear something as loud as this would be if it matched the color scheme of the alb...

Shattered Skies - Muted Neon

New Shattered Skies coming out next month! The new singer still isn't the old one, but this guy is still quite good all the same. Shut-in is a great track so I'm pretty excited to see what the whole album's gonna have for us.

Re: Kingcrow - The Persistence......

I feel like the dumbest person in the room. I think a long time ago I listened to Phlegethon once and decided the band wasn't for me - I was probably distracted at the time. Along comes the new disc and due to all the raving here, I gave it a spin yesterday. And then I went back to Phlegethon. Then...

It's pretty straightforward, and like Nos said it doesn't really know what side of the fence it wants to land on. There's kind of a pang of wasted potential, imo. Still, when the plain ole rock mood strikes, this is something that'd fit the bill nicely.

Northward

Jørn Viggo Lofstad's guitar, check
Floor's voice, check

Good stuff, yes it is. Really it makes me want a new Pagan's Mind more, and a Floor guest on a PM track, though.

Initially I was a little underwhelmed. But then Saturday I was talking over the lineup with Troy and realized that I'm pretty excited about well over half the lineup...so I think it was just a matter of not seeing some names I was really hoping to see. I'm still on the fence about Poets of the Fall,...

Each set in one sentence: ROSS THE BOSS: Very interesting for fans, but left me rather cold, although Mike LePond rocks the bass guitar. Yeah, what a wanker. Looks like it's mostly Mississippi's problem rather than ours, though. We'll see in the morning, but at least over here it seems clear. See you folks tomorrow around this time!

Took me 60 seconds to sample and go buy it at their bandcamp page. Thanks for the heads up! Did their bandcamp vanish or do I just suck at the internet today? The single posted before was quite good. I can't wait to try out the full album. You suck. :P https://timethevaluator.bandcamp.com/releases ...

I'd just like to add that "Believe" is fucking awesome. It could have fit seamlessly on "V." It's old school SX at it's finest. Having just received my copy and after getting through the solo of Believe I have to say yeah...definitely could've been V material. It's got that clas...

I think the first two songs on Handmade Cities are some of the best jazz-fusion prog you'll ever hear, and a good deal of the remaining album is of a similar standard. Sunhead is a very good follow-up, and despite what some people say is still plenty hefty enough for me. "Kind" is my favo...
