Same. It took me a while to really get into it, but now I love it. So even though my initial impression of this one isn't amazing, I'm still giving it time.

Re: VOLA - Applause of a Distant Crowd

It's a bit too laid back for my personal taste, but a good album nonetheless.

Re: New Riverside in September....

I want to like this, but there's just no fire there for me. It's not bad by any means, but it's nothing like the first 4 albums, which is what I'm really craving from Riverside.

Re: Shattered Skies - Muted Neon

Super excited for this! Though, I gotta say it's a shame that album cover has all those sick colors and the shirt is just black and white :P I'm still considering a shirt as I do love these folks. I'm not sure I could wear something as loud as this would be if it matched the color scheme of the alb...

Shattered Skies - Muted Neon

New Shattered Skies coming out next month! The new singer still isn't the old one, but this guy is still quite good all the same. Shut-in is a great track so I'm pretty excited to see what the whole album's gonna have for us.

Re: Kingcrow - The Persistence......

I feel like the dumbest person in the room. I think a long time ago I listened to Phlegethon once and decided the band wasn't for me - I was probably distracted at the time. Along comes the new disc and due to all the raving here, I gave it a spin yesterday. And then I went back to Phlegethon. Then...

Re: Northward

It's pretty straightforward, and like Nos said it doesn't really know what side of the fence it wants to land on. There's kind of a pang of wasted potential, imo. Still, when the plain ole rock mood strikes, this is something that'd fit the bill nicely.

Northward

Jørn Viggo Lofstad's guitar, check
Floor's voice, check

Good stuff, yes it is. Really it makes me want a new Pagan's Mind more, and a Floor guest on a PM track, though.

Re: ProgPower USA XX

Initially I was a little underwhelmed. But then Saturday I was talking over the lineup with Troy and realized that I'm pretty excited about well over half the lineup...so I think it was just a matter of not seeing some names I was really hoping to see. I'm still on the fence about Poets of the Fall,...

Each set in one sentence: ROSS THE BOSS: Very interesting for fans, but left me rather cold, although Mike LePond rocks the bass guitar. Yeah, what a wanker. Looks like it's mostly Mississippi's problem rather than ours, though. We'll see in the morning, but at least over here it seems clear. See you folks tomorrow around this time!

Took me 60 seconds to sample and go buy it at their bandcamp page. Thanks for the heads up! Did their bandcamp vanish or do I just suck at the internet today? The single posted before was quite good. I can't wait to try out the full album. You suck. :P https://timethevaluator.bandcamp.com/releases ...

I'd just like to add that "Believe" is fucking awesome. It could have fit seamlessly on "V." It's old school SX at it's finest. Having just received my copy and after getting through the solo of Believe I have to say yeah...definitely could've been V material. It's got that clas...

I think the first two songs on Handmade Cities are some of the best jazz-fusion prog you'll ever hear, and a good deal of the remaining album is of a similar standard. Sunhead is a very good follow-up, and despite what some people say is still plenty hefty enough for me. "Kind" is my favo...

Re: Have we already talked about the neo-prog band Anubis from Australia?

Everyone seems to confuse this band with the Danish Anubis Gate who sound totally different! A Tower of Silence is among PA's highest ranked neo-prog albums ever. I really enjoyed that disc and their more recent one The Second Hand is also fantastic. You may know the guitarist as Douglas Skene of H...

Re: Distorted Harmony - A Way Out

Thinking about it a little more there's a lot on this album that feels like nods to greater and lesser known tech and prog bands of the last 20 years or so. I hear a myriad of sections that feel immediately familiar...but in someone else's context. The aforementioned Nevermore on Room 11, pieces of ...
